Nevada's pitching got rocked by the powerful offense of the Mustangs right from the start of the game, allowing five runs on five hits in the very first inning. The Red Sox never were able to fully recover from the early rout, but were able to cut into the lead with four runs of their own in the fourth inning.
MacDonald County added another run in the second, before two walks and four hits allowed by starter Travis Spears led to the Nevada rally in the third, cutting the lead to 6-4. Nevada's offense fell off quickly, though, only scoring one more run for the rest of the game.
Nevada gave away one more run, extending the Mustangs' lead to 7-4, in the fifth inning when a ball got by the catcher, allowing the runner to score from third. But, it was in the sixth and seventh innings when MacDonald County really opened up on Red Sox pitching, plating six and seven runs in each of the last two innings, respectively.
Nevada tried to mount a bit of a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, but fell short, scoring one run on two hits before the side was struck out. By the end of the game, MacDonald County had amassed a 20-5 victory, out-hitting the Red Sox 21-8. Results from the second game were not yet available at deadline.
The loss pushed Nevada's record back to 14-5, and their next contest is slated for Wednesday night at Windsor.
