kenkennedy, it is YOU who is full of hateful comments!

... another Bully telling people what to do.

PS. This old lady once told me that she was always warned about "the rapture" when she was young.

I'm not going to bother reading the comments on this anymore.

ken- I am not sure who you are referring to about the hateful comments?

-- Posted by DaisyMom on Fri, Aug 1, 2008, at 6:27 PM

shouldn't all of you that are full of these hateful comments be doing something...like preparing for the rapture?

I'll happily come...for the french fries. Can't say no to those.

On the positive side we do have some good/understanding people like you "daisymom" in Nevada and I hope that you do visit "kneesocks" and make it even better! :-)

Good grief, I had been thinking about moving back to Nevada part of the year. I forgot why I left I guess. Good luck to all you Jesus freaks, closet drinkers and gay basher Republicans. If there is a heaven I hope you'll all be very happy there together. The only good thing about Nevada that never changes is the White Grill--I think I'll ask to be sent there when I die.

-- Posted by Kneesocks on Tue, Jul 29, 2008, at 3:48 PM

Dandrew- I applaud your effort to attempt to educate others about this subject, but unfortunately I feel like you post will fall on deaf ears. If a person's views towards gays and lesbians is based on their religious teachings then you are asking them to doubt their faith. No matter how wrong the thinking is, the faith is stronger.

For those of us who get it, there is no fear.

-- Posted by DaisyMom on Tue, Jul 29, 2008, at 8:53 AM

Flaming- I would wonder what I am being protected from? This thread is talking about gays and lesbians. How am I being threatened by them? My rights, as a heterosexual, do seem to be absolute. I can marry who I want to, however many times. I can move to any state in the country and adopt a child. Gays do not have this same right. Why do I need to be protected? And who is it that is allowed to decide what I need protecting from?

Instead of asking me if I need protecting, I would ask you what it is that you are afraid of.

Answers to Your Questions About Sexual Orientation and Homosexuality http://www.printthis.clickability.com/pt......

1 of 4 4/19/2007 3:14 PM

What Is Sexual Orientation?

Sexual Orientation is an enduring emotional, romantic, sexual or affectional attraction to

another person. It is easily distinguished from other components of sexuality including

biological sex, gender identity (the psychological sense of being male or female) and the

social gender role (adherence to cultural norms for feminine and masculine behavior).

Sexual orientation exists along a continuum that ranges from exclusive homosexuality to

exclusive heterosexuality and includes various forms of bisexuality. Bisexual persons can

experience sexual, emotional and affectional attraction to both their own sex and the

opposite sex. Persons with a homosexual orientation are sometimes referred to as gay (both

men and women) or as lesbian (women only).

Sexual orientation is different from sexual behavior because it refers to feelings and

self-concept. Persons may or may not express their sexual orientation in their behaviors.

What Causes a Person To Have a Particular Sexual Orientation?

There are numerous theories about the origins of a person's sexual orientation; most

scientists today agree that sexual orientation is most likely the result of a complex

interaction of environmental, cognitive and biological factors. In most people, sexual

orientation is shaped at an early age. There is also considerable recent evidence to suggest

that biology, including genetic or inborn hormonal factors, play a significant role in a

person's sexuality. In summary, it is important to recognize that there are probably many

reasons for a person's sexual orientation and the reasons may be different for different

people.

Is Sexual Orientation a Choice?

No, human beings can not choose to be either gay or straight. Sexual orientation emerges for

most people in early adolescence without any prior sexual experience. Although we can

choose whether to act on our feelings, psychologists do not consider sexual orientation to be

a conscious choice that can be voluntarily changed.

Can Therapy Change Sexual Orientation?

No. Even though most homosexuals live successful, happy lives, some homosexual or

bisexual people may seek to change their sexual orientation through therapy, sometimes

pressured by the influence of family members or religious groups to try and do so. The

reality is that homosexuality is not an illness. It does not require treatment and is not

changeable.

However, not all gay, lesbian, and bisexual people who seek assistance from a mental health

professional want to change their sexual orientation. Gay, lesbian, and bisexual people may

seek psychological help with the coming out process or for strategies to deal with prejudice,

but most go into therapy for the same reasons and life issues that bring straight people to

mental health professionals.

What About So-Called "Conversion Therapies"?

Some therapists who undertake so-called conversion therapy report that they have been able

to change their clients' sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual. Close scrutiny

of these reports however show several factors that cast doubt on their claims. For example,

many of the claims come from organizations with an ideological perspective which

condemns homosexuality. Furthermore, their claims are poorly documented. For example,

treatment outcome is not followed and reported overtime as would be the standard to test the

validity of any mental health intervention.

The American Psychological Association is concerned about such therapies and their

potential harm to patients. In 1997, the Association's Council of Representatives passed a

resolution reaffirming psychology's opposition to homophobia in treatment and spelling out

a client's right to unbiased treatment and self-determination. Any person who enters into

therapy to deal with issues of sexual orientation has a right to expect that such therapy

would take place in a professionally neutral environment absent of any social bias.

Is Homosexuality a Mental Illness or Emotional Problem?

No. Psychologists, psychiatrists and other mental health professionals agree that

homosexuality is not an illness, mental disorder or an emotional problem. Over 35 years of

objective, well-designed scientific research has shown that homosexuality, in and itself, is

not associated with mental disorders or emotional or social problems. Homosexuality was

once thought to be a mental illness because mental health professionals and society had

biased information. In the past the studies of gay, lesbian and bisexual people involved only

those in therapy, thus biasing the resulting conclusions. When researchers examined data

about these people who were not in therapy, the idea that homosexuality was a mental

illness was quickly found to be untrue.

In 1973 the American Psychiatric Association confirmed the importance of the new, better

designed research and removed homosexuality from the official manual that lists mental and

emotional disorders. Two years later, the American Psychological Association passed a

resolution supporting the removal. For more than 25 years, both associations have urged all

mental health professionals to help dispel the stigma of mental illness that some people still

associate with homosexual orientation.

Can Lesbians, Gay Men, and Bisexuals Be Good Parents?

Yes. Studies comparing groups of children raised by homosexual and by heterosexual

parents find no developmental differences between the two groups of children in four

critical areas: their intelligence, psychological adjustment, social adjustment, and popularity

with friends. It is also important to realize that a parent's sexual orientation does not dictate

his or her children's.

Another myth about homosexuality is the mistaken belief that gay men have more of a

tendency than heterosexual men to sexually molest children. There is no evidence to suggest

that homosexuals are more likely than heterosexuals to molest children.

Why Do Some Gay Men, Lesbians and Bisexuals Tell People About Their Sexual Orientation?

Because sharing that aspect of themselves with others is important to their mental health. In

fact, the process of identity development for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals called "coming

out", has been found to be strongly related to psychological adjustment--the more positive

the gay, lesbian, or bisexual identity, the better one's mental health and the higher one's

self-esteem.

Why Is the "Coming Out" Process Difficult for Some Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual People?

For some gay and bisexual people the coming out process is difficult, for others it is not.

Often lesbian, gay and bisexual people feel afraid, different, and alone when they first

realize that their sexual orientation is different from the community norm. This is

particularly true for people becoming aware of their gay, lesbian, or bisexual orientation as a

child or adolescent, which is not uncommon. And, depending on their families and where

they live, they may have to struggle against prejudice and misinformation about

homosexuality. Children and adolescents may be particularly vulnerable to the deleterious

effects of bias and stereotypes. They may also fear being rejected by family,

friends, co-workers, and religious institutions. Some gay people have to worry about losing

their jobs or being harassed at school if their sexual orientation became well known.

Unfortunately, gay, lesbian and bisexual people are at a higher risk for physical assault and

violence than are heterosexuals. Studies done in California in the mid 1990s showed that

nearly one-fifth of all lesbians who took part in the study and more than one-fourth of all

gay men who participated had been the victim of a hate crime based on their sexual

orientation. In another California study of approximately 500 young adults, half of all the

young men participating in the study admitted to some form of anti-gay aggression from

name-calling to physical violence.

What Can Be Done to Overcome the Prejudice and Discrimination the Gay Men, Lesbians, and Bisexuals

Experience?

Research has found that the people who have the most positive attitudes toward gay men,

lesbians and bisexuals are those who say they know one or more gay, lesbian or bisexual

person well--often as a friend or co-worker. For this reason, psychologists believe negative

attitudes toward gay people as a group are prejudices that are not grounded in actual

experiences but are based on stereotypes and prejudice.

Furthermore, protection against violence and discrimination is very important, just as it is

for other minority groups. Some states include violence against an individual on the basis of

his or her sexual orientation as a "hate crime" and 10 U.S. states have laws against

discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Why is it Important for Society to be Better Educated About Homosexuality?

Educating all people about sexual orientation and homosexuality is likely to diminish

anti-gay prejudice. Accurate information about homosexuality is especially important to

young people who are first discovering and seeking to understand their sexuality--whether

homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. Fears that access to such information will make more

people gay have no validity--information about homosexuality does not make someone gay

or straight.

Are All Gay and Bisexual Men HIV Infected?

No. This is a commonly held myth. In reality, the risk of exposure to HIV is related to a

person's behavior, not their sexual orientation. What's important to remember about

HIV/AIDS is it is a preventable disease through the use of safe sex practices and by not

using drugs.

do you think that rights are absolute, DaisyMom, or do you think it's possible that we live in a country where our freedoms are limited for our protection?

-- Posted by Flaming4Jesus on Mon, Jul 28, 2008, at 10:20 AM

Just for grins I decided to go to the web site that was listed by "finikymom". I was not surprised to see that the site is a Christian "pro family" fear mongering site. They are currently calling for the government to take action against PBS because of a documentary. So much for free speech!

I looked at the link that discussed McDonalds. The evidence that the site had was a commercial stating that McD's would continue to support gay and lesbian issues. So in other words, McDonald's will not discriminate towards others who some may have an issue with. Some how, from one little commercial this site is making the claim that McDonalds is pro gay marriage. Seems to be a stretch, but fear is a big motivator when it comes to continuing to push an agenda that is bigoted and discriminative.

Maybe now I will begin to frequent McDonalds, just out of principal. I am happy to know that McDonalds is open to the idea that human rights for everyone is a good idea. What a concept!! I will not spend money at a place that openly discriminates one versus another. Which is probably why I don't give a cent to a church.

I apologize for lowering myself to her level and using that word. That word is in the bible and used by preachers etc. but I suppose it's wrong to use it in certain ways.

It just gets me angry when loud mouth people try to boss others around and tell them what to do!

"Flamer..." You made the best point by saying, "Why is she commenting on comments..."

Also, I just found the gays and meat connections amusing, I was just ribbing you on it!

-- Posted by dandrew on Wed, Jul 23, 2008, at 3:13 PM

also i do not drive.

-- Posted by Flaming4Jesus on Wed, Jul 23, 2008, at 1:17 PM

dandrew: I do not know what you are getting at.

Daisymom: I am concerned about the wages that are being given at the new MacDonald's...will the gay people get the same money that the other people get? i don't know! who knows? besides the Lord and also the people who run the MacDonald's.

also thank you for keeping out them ugly words. we should talk about this issue in a more civilised fashion. like as if it was debate.

mattsmom: i think that your mean comment has falsities. for example, i don't eat meat so it seems unlikely that i'll eat burghers from the restaurant; or fries. also why are you commenting on our comments if you think that our comments have been commented in vain!?

-- Posted by Flaming4Jesus on Wed, Jul 23, 2008, at 12:57 PM

I think that we all need to calm down and not start throwing around ugly words. Why is it that people cannot have a discussion without cursing and getting ugly? We are supposed to be adults, not children.

In your not so polite way, you have a point "mattsmom". The issue should not be whether or not McDonalds is gay friendly or not. Why aren't we more concerned about the food being served at McDonalds, where it comes from, etc. And how about the wages being paid for the individuals who work there. There are real issues that could be dealt with but the gay issue has lead to a real distraction.

-- Posted by DaisyMom on Wed, Jul 23, 2008, at 8:07 AM

I agree with you "DaisyMom"!

Even Walmart has a job policy against discrimination of sexual orientation but I bet you all of these people shop there!

Most large companies have that policy. Gays have the right to eat and work there like anyone else! I'm sure if some of the gays didn't work there then we would hear complaint's about gays not working from some of these people!

-- Posted by dandrew on Tue, Jul 22, 2008, at 7:05 PM

If it came to light that Ford was "gay friendly" would you people sell your vehicle? Would you not shop at Wal-Mart if they hired gay people? The amount of close mindedness in this town is appalling. I wonder if these same people had an issue 50 years ago when places became integrated. It seems like gay people are just the new person for a so called religious person to hate.

-- Posted by DaisyMom on Tue, Jul 22, 2008, at 4:53 PM

I take back what I said about the building "looking ugly and like a warehouse." They put bigger looking windows in it. Now I only hope that they put some landscaping in, like the beautiful job that Sonic did.

-- Posted by dandrew on Tue, Jul 22, 2008, at 4:29 PM

well if the gays go to beaches and rock climbings, shouldn't the fertile citizens of nevada be allowed to go to the mcdonalds for a cheeseburger while they are out doing stuff that the gays do? i wonder if the city council would be willing to work out some kind of schedule... maybe a gayday, if you will.

-- Posted by greatestbritain on Tue, Jul 22, 2008, at 9:11 AM

think about in terms of our Lord's parables.

like the one about the farmer who plants seeds and some of them land on rocks, others in sand, some in fertile soil (holla mesopotamia!), ect. now think about that in terms of how the gays go to the beaches and rock climbing.

and the n33d nourishment, sustenance, what have you. obviously then they'd want burghers. cheeseburghers. and where will the people of nevada be? starvin'

-- Posted by Flaming4Jesus on Mon, Jul 21, 2008, at 7:11 PM

meat... and gays. i don't see the connection...

-- Posted by greatestbritain on Fri, Jul 18, 2008, at 3:22 PM

...obviously greatestbritain, the gays like meat. it was a literary device: a meta4!

-- Posted by Flaming4Jesus on Fri, Jul 18, 2008, at 3:17 PM

why would they make a cheeseburger warehouse for the gays?

-- Posted by greatestbritain on Fri, Jul 18, 2008, at 2:56 PM

How did we get on the topic of threatening heterosexual marriage? How is that related here? And fairness in the right to 'marry' makes no sense in any other context. And check your last sentence (7/15) - shouldn't it read: open your eyes, not you eyes?? Not that poor spelling or grammar should take away one's right to make their opinion known. Happy arguing, or whatever. You're on your own..........

-- Posted by ol'ladywho on Wed, Jul 16, 2008, at 11:59 PM

Remind me again how fairness in the right to marry threatens heterosexual marriage? If my marriage is at risk because of public policy impacting the rights of all people, maybe I should not be married in the first place. Is my straight marriage at risk because with gay marriages recognized (or at least gay civil unions), I feel double-temptation to marry someone else, of either gender, besides my own spouse? I will never understand how one person's right to be married to another person impacts the sanctity of my own marriage or right. McDonalds' ad in San Francisco (the nature of the AFA stink over this thing) indicated that McDonalds supports communities that support gay rights... but then the AFA takes it to an endorsement of gay marriage (and gay pride parades... gasp!!). I hope McDonalds (as a giant in the corporate world) does support the causes of all "underdogs" as well as the rights of all people.

Can't wait to hit the drive-thru for a cold drink, right under the golden arches.

-- Posted by libertyjustice on Wed, Jul 16, 2008, at 11:53 AM

ol'ladywho: I certainly don't follow your line of reasoning. Not once in my post did I suggest you be denied of YOUR right to suspend your business from a particular vendor or limit your freedom of expression. Your rights are as "entitled" as any other human beings. That is my point exactly. It just seems narrow-minded to criticize a corporation for "following the gay agenda" when all this likely boils down to is the corporation instituting a non-discrimination policy within their corporate infrastructure.

And I agree with you? Won't a judgment day be a glorious thing? It will truly be the day when the judging can be done by the one governing spirit in the universe who/which is entitled to judge. We, simply, are not.

And I did double-check my spelling. You'll find no errors in my previous post. I may be more liberally-minded than you (which I am entitled to as you are entitled to be conservatively-minded) but I am not inherently a bad speller because of it.

-- Posted by libertyjustice on Wed, Jul 16, 2008, at 11:32 AM

libertyjustice: Maybe you should use your own spellcheck. And why should we not be allowed to voice our opinion/protest/boycott etc. just like anyone else? You give some good advice: Get over yourselves - open your eyes. Yes, too much wrong, hateful, vile stuff has been shoved in my mind. And yes, I know some gay people & I don't hate them just because I disagree with them. In that case, I could hate a lot of people for a lot of reasons. I don't claim to have it all figured out, but obviously you haven't either. But for a business such as McDonald's to flaunt this in the face of everyone else is not right or necessary. There are other 'underdogs' they could be supporting...... And yes, I believe that we all will find out on the Judgment Day who is right & who is wrong. Just ask then if anyone is genetically predisposed......... Who knows, you may be religious & just don't know it or are afraid to admit being politically incorrect......... ;)

-- Posted by ol'ladywho on Tue, Jul 15, 2008, at 11:07 PM

Please tell me that your narrow-minded, hate-filled selves will not be deprived of fattening, greasy food, loaded with nitrates and saturated oils on the basis of this corporation supporting simple rights for all human beings. What a tragedy that would be!! (Insert a clue that I am being sarcastic here for those of you who don't catch that... wondering how smart you are, if spelling is any indication.) Get over yourselves. Live and let live people. 10% of the population is genetically predisposed to homosexuality among the human species. If you think you don't know (and maybe even love) some gay people, you are living in a dream world. You do. Heck, you may be gay yourself and are just so scared and threatened by your feelings that you react with aggression and anger because too much vile, hateful "stuff" has been shoved in your mind all of your life in the name of religion or morals. Please... Open you eyes and hearts (and your hearts might be healthier without all those shakes and fries anyway).

-- Posted by libertyjustice on Tue, Jul 15, 2008, at 8:13 PM

mcdonalds is tring to hide the truth they are supporting the gays it is on the afa web site. I will boycott it till they pull from supporting the gays. and ur building look like a big warehouse for gays.

-- Posted by grandchampion on Tue, Jul 15, 2008, at 4:25 PM

Mr. McCoy: You may be a private business owner, but you are affiliated with a chain whose decisions on who to endorse have the potential to greatly affect your success. It does not have to be 'posted' for the general public to know what their hard-earned money is going to support. We, also, will be boycotting all McDonald's. Please share this with your upline: many people are indeed offended because your corporate officials chose to use the business to make a statement. You are so right, that is not the place.

Respectfully, a disappointed former good customer

-- Posted by ol'ladywho on Fri, Jul 11, 2008, at 6:04 PM

Response to grand champion--Regarding the "gay logo": if you go to the web site:afa.net, you will see the latest news on McDonald's Corp. supporting the gay and lesbian agenda. It is a good idea to be informed as to where your hard earned money goes to. Maybe Mr. McCoy needs to explain why the corp. he works for is in the business of supporting this kind of behavior. I will boycott the local McDonalds when it opens until I hear otherwise.

-- Posted by LadyJuneBug on Wed, Jul 9, 2008, at 12:17 PM

It's an ugly looking building with just 1 customer door and 2 small windows facing Austin St. The rest of it facing Austin St. is all bricked-in. It looks like a Warehouse!

I think that Nevada needs to approve a buildings esthetics and make them plant trees and landscaping before allowing a building to be built!

Thankyou tabatha for cheecking

-- Posted by grandchampion on Tue, Jul 8, 2008, at 4:12 PM

I just wonder if this mcdonalds will support the gays. I am not tring to offend anyone but there is a rumur that the new building will have a slogo that says we support the gays not the troops. does any one know if that is true or not? respond and let me know at grandcnampion@hotmail.com thank you very much and god bless.

Response by Tabatha Goodwin, Special Projects Mgr.:
The Nevada Daily Mail received an anonymous call of concern about this comment. We encourage the caller to log on and make his comments known on this site. That is the purpose of the comment section. We are attempting to contact the owner of McDonald's to clarify the comment listed above. Clarification will be posted to the comment section of this story.

***Response by Tabatha Goodwin, Special Projects Mgr.:

The Nevada Daily Mail reached Mark McCoy, McDonald's owner in Fort Scott and Nevada today and received a response to the above posted comment.

"There is no truth to that rumor," McCoy said. "I am offended that someone would even ask a question like that in the first place. A business place is not a place to make a religious, ethnic or political statement. I am a private business owner in Fort Scott and Nevada. My intentions are not to offend anyone in any way shape or form."
