The mother of Nevada Police officer Steve Gayman, 67-year-old Shirley Gayman, was killed in an accident on Route M, 3 miles southwest of Schell City Monday. at approximately 10 a.m.

Gayman was riding a Kawasaki four-wheel ATV when it went off the roadway and overturned in the ditch, ejecting Gayman.

Gayman was pronounced dead at the scene by Vernon County deputy coroner Larry Joggerst. Survivors include Officer Gayman; another son, Mike Gayman of Oronogo; a daughter, Lisa Wittman of Tulsa, Okla., and seven grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Nevada. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City.
