Nevada Fire Fighters' Local 3031 raised more than $3,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the Labor Day weekend. Local IAFF members stood at the intersection of Austin and Osage asking passing motorists for donations. Firefighters began Boot Blocking Friday night and finished Monday morning. "This was a better year than expected," said Union President John McGraw, "We hoped for about $2000 in donations but to get this much is great. A big thank you to the people of Nevada." Firefighters and their spouses give up the holiday weekend each year to raise money for "Jerry's kids." Nevada Fire Chief Robert Benn, though no longer a union member, spent the weekend Boot Blocking. "I've been doing this for 16 years. I plan it every year, this is what I do for Labor Day weekend," stated Chief Benn. The International Association of Fire Fighters is the largest national sponsor of MDA. The IAFF has donated nearly $275 million to MDA since 1954. Above, firefighters display check to be donated to MDA for $3,567.
