Nevada varsity volleyball takes out Harrisonville

Saturday, September 6, 2008

The Nevada Lady Tigers varsity volleyball team picked up another win Thursday night as they knocked off Harrisonville 25-8, 25-17 in two sets.

"We played a very good first game," head coach Becky Lowery said. "We controlled the whole game."

Taylor Means got the Lady Tigers off to a strong start in the first set, serving 14 consecutive points. Nevada never looked back and rolled to an easy first set win.

In set two, Harrisonville served the first six points of the set and went on to take a 9-3 lead before Brooke Silvola went back to serve and helped Nevada claw their way to an 11-9 lead. "We got our momentum back after that and Harrisonville only served one more point," Lowery said.

The rest of Harrisonville's points in the second set were sideout points and Lowery said that backing up their rotation for the beginning of the game gave Nevada a "major mental block".

Taylor Means led scoring in the match with 14 points and nine digs and Mariah Mock led with 11 kills and three blocks. The Lady Tigers will be in action again on Monday when they travel to Lamar for their third match of the season.
