Cottey Comets drop disappointing match

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

The Cottey College Comets competed against Stephens College with unfortunate results Saturday night.

The Comets were defeated in four sets; 25-21, 23-25, 24-26, 23-25. "This is a team we should have beaten," head coach Marla Foreman said. "As I viewed the game film and noticed that we were in the lead in sets three and four by sometimes four to five points."

Stephens made a 5-0 run late in the third set that tie the score at 23, then missed their serve to give the lead back to the Comets. Stephens was again able to tie the score before closing out the set on a 3-0 run.

"Our last two points of set three were due to serve receive errors and we haven't been having serve receive errors for the most part this season as we have in the past," Foreman said. Set four had a similar complexion to set three, as the Comets gave up a five point lead to drop the set.

The Comets' next match will be a tournament in Springfield, Mo., scheduled for Sept. 19 and 20.
