Workshop in Nevada offers tips on how to start a business

Friday, September 26, 2008

In a workshop hosted by the University of Missouri Extension, participants can explore how to take those first steps toward owning a business.

The "Starting a Small Business: The First Steps" class set for 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Nevada TeleCenter, 2015 N. West St. Nevada, Mo.

"This workshop is designed specifically for those who are thinking about starting a business," said Kathy Macomber, business development specialist, University of Missouri Extension. "We'll examine the importance of planning, legal and regulatory requirements, and identify sources of financing."

According to Macomber, this program will cover the three M's of money, marketing and management -- and other critical steps associated with starting a business.

Highlights of the program will include information about the importance of a business plan, identifying the potential competitors and customers and discussing a variety of the challenges that come with small business ownership.

The cost for this program, which includes the start-up manual, is $35.

Advance registration is required and can be made by telephone at (417) 448-2560 or in person at the Vernon County Extension Office, located on the ground floor of the Vernon County Courthouse, 100 W. Cherry Nevada.
