Cottey hosts body image project today

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

The Body Image Project will be presented by artist/lecturer, Larry Kirkwood at 7 p.m., today, in the Missouri Recital Hall on the Cottey College campus.

This project originated in 1993 and deals with the reality of our outside appearance. It explores prejudices such as sexism, racism, and ageism. Kirkwood has toured college campuses nationwide. His exhibit will be in the Conway Student Art Gallery from Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. This event is sponsored by the Counseling Office and is open to the campus and community free of charge.

Another, unrelated ceramics exhibit by Malcolm Kucharski is on display through Oct. 11. The show, titled "Touch and Go," is in the P.E.O. Foundation Art Gallery inside the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts.

Kucharski, who has a bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and an master's degree from the University of Minnesota, is an associate professor of art at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.

The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and later on the evenings of shows. There is no fee for the exhibit.

The Recital Hall is inside the Haidee and Allen Wild Center for the Arts on the northeast corner of Austin and Tower streets in Nevada. The Conway Student Art Gallery is inside the Rubie Burton Academic Center on the southwest corner of Austin and Chestnut streets.
