The Hornets put up individual runs in the first, third and fifth innings before a four-run sixth capped off the shutout. Senior Ryan Austin pitched the entire shutout effort, earning another no-hitter with 17 strikeouts.
On the season, Austin has not allowed a run and has recorded 42 strikeouts in his 22 innings of work.
Senior Cody Franklin scored two runs and drove in two more in the contest while Austin notched one RBI and freshman Bobby Berry added two of his own. Austin, Berry, senior Eric Pruitt and sophomore Kolby Boos each scored one run in the contest.
On Tuesday, Hume followed up the shutout win with a 34-10 victory over the Sheldon Panthers. Senior Cameron Hinton started the game for the Hornets, allowing seven runs in his three innings of work.
Junior Zach Austin came on to pitch the final two innings and allowed three more runs before the run rule brought the game to an early end. Senior Andy Yarrick provided the biggest offensive day for the Hornets, scoring five runs and knocking in five more with the help of a two-run homer.
Both Austin brothers added back-to-back solo home runs in the game and combined for five runs and eight RBIs. Boos scored three runs in the game, knocking in two more, while junior Kris Sears scored four runs and drove in another two.
Hinton and Berry rounded out the offense for the Hornets with three and four runs scored, respectively. The Hornets are scheduled to be in action again on Thursday when they travel to Northeast Vernon County High School, with their next home contest coming against Lakeland on Monday.
