Nevada man faces charges stemming from two incidents on the same day

Thursday, October 9, 2008

Gary W. "Bud" Drake Jr., 28, Nevada, is under house arrest at his grandmother's house in Schell City following two incidents Sept. 27, both occurring near and on the Square in Nevada at approximately 10 p.m.

The first occurred at the Uptown Apartments where a juvenile was sitting on a tall chair. It is alleged that Drake approached the juvenile shouting about a woman and struck him in the left eye causing damage severe enough that the juvenile went to Nevada Regional Medical Center's Emergency Department.

The second incident involved Jimmie Webb who was in the park beside Cavener's Library and Office Supply when Drake walked into the park and began arguing with Kayla Burris. During the argument Drake turned and struck Webb in the mouth, splitting his lip.

The first incident resulting in a 2nd degree assault charge, a felony and the second incident resulted in a 3rd degree assault charge, a misdemeanor. A pre-hearing conference is scheduled Nov. 6 before Judge Neal Quitno.

mattsmom. of course what has happened in your town is a horrible tragedy. but dont make light of this case as well. do u think serial killers just start out killing without anger and other things that lead up to it? the point is i think that this young man has had a history of problems. and if it isnt taken care of. he too could have the potential to be a serial killer. or killer whatever.

Im sure if you look into youll find in this case at least history probably has repeated itself. Im sure it was no coincidence and it sure was not just another "bad day" Im usually not one to judge but people are who they are and will live the way they want. You can change if you really want to and some people wont change because its all they know

You all act like it's the end of the world because this man is having a bad day. Why do you all put your noses back in your own business and let the law take care of this? God, I'd trade the double homicide murderer here in Carthage for Bud Drake any day. Try feeling safe with a MURDERER running loose instead of a hot headed man.

Stop making up excuses for this man. He is old enough to know right from wrong and he needs to pay the price. We have elderly people in this town and even Schell City that walks the streets and with crazy people like this out where are our rights? If he wants to fight and be tough tell him to sign up for the Army they will straighten him out. Thats where these people need to be sent.

I can respect the fact that there are those who would like to see this bud drake locked up. Well let me be the first to offer you the stone to throw. This man is entangled in mischief only because of his own upbringing and because of the lack of love in this community.

Yes he has done wrong but please note the fact that he will most likely recieve a punishment worthy of the crime.

There is no individual worth throwing the key away on. Even when they are locked up they are still of importance.

The greatest thing a person can recieve in life is FORGIVENESS . Seems like this bud may just need to seek a bit of forgiveness himself. I hope he reads this, I also hope he learns that in order to be forgiven he himself must forgive. Hey bud, you might want to start with forgiving yourself. Since it appears you are responsible for your own actions. Lay down the alcohol and the drugs. I did and im finally free.

I know this young man and his brother very well and I know they are both nothing but trouble! He needs to be locked up away from society. But Vernon countys answer is to send him to Schell City so he can create havoc there. All I can say is the people in Schell had better beware!

I know this young man very well and all he has ever done is to offer his help to me free of charge. I am a 63 year old woman, disabled since 1990 he has been with me and my family for the last 2 years. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever known. All I have to do is call him when I am in distress with no help with household chores.. So if you want him to get off the streets him and his beautiful kids are welcome to come to my house anytime. He don`t start fights unless it is to protect his family or friends he is always there to protect us whom has no help.

i completely agree with both of you. When are they going to do something about people like this. I know that there has been many times when i have heard of him doing things like this before, and it seems that there is no end to it. Why would someone like this be able to walk the streets of nevada?

Geez, I'm afraid to walk around Nevada Now.

This guy sounds mentally unsafe and dangerous going around assaulting people/juveniles at random.

I wish we could get people like this off of the streets. Quit slapping them on the hand and turning them loose to just do it again. I know that Mr. Drake has been in trouble so many times that it is getting old. How much more does he have to do before something is done with him.
