The storied rivalry between Nevada High School and Webb City High School continued Thursday night as the Lady Tigers fell in three sets, 19-25, 25-19, 15-25.

Nevada got off to a good start in the opening set by scoring the first two points, but quickly fell off and Webb City was able to take a 9-5 lead after two short runs.

Mariah Mock showed some very strong defensive play for the Lady Tigers and created a wall that the Lady Tigers struggled to get through with her blocking.

Head coach Becky Lowery spoke highly of Mock and the rest of her players, making special note of the strong performance shown in the match by Chelsie Johnson. "Chelsie Johnson had an excellent game," Lowery said. "She's really come along lately."

Brooke Silvola was another player that Lowery spoke well of on the night, showing very good serves and playing strong defense as well. In the night's second set, the Lady Tigers played with visibly more intensity and started the set with an early 6-0 run to take a 9-2 lead. The Lady Cardinals quickly answered with a 5-0 run of their own to pull within one at 10-9, but Nevada quickly opened the game back up with a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 17-9.

Webb City pulled right back in with another 5-0 run to cut the lead to three at 17-14, but eventually fell short as the two teams traded points for the rest of the set and Nevada was able to pull off the win, 25-19. "We had an awesome second game," Lowery said.

The final set got off to a promising start as well for Nevada, but quickly fell apart as the Lady Cardinals went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 8-2. The Lady Tigers never really recovered and the two teams traded short runs for the remainder of the set and Webb City took the win 25-15 to win the match.

After the game, Lowery attributed the loss to a simple lack of ability to make offensive plays.

"We all had some good things. Our serve receive just wasn't there. If we had that, it would have been a different game."

Thursday night's loss concluded the Lady Tigers' regular season and their next contest will come on Tuesday when they face the McDonald County Lady Mustangs in district play at 6:30 p.m.
