Farms with 10 acres or less of Crop Base Acres are now eligible to enroll in the 2008 Farm Program from FSA

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Congress recently approved provisions for farms with 10.0 base acres or less to enroll in the 2008 DCP farm program.

According to a press release from the Vernon County FSA, roducers on farms with 10.0 base acres or less have until Nov. 26, 2008, to initiate and complete enrollment of a farm for the 2008 DCP farm program.

This does not extend the DCP sign-up deadline for farms with greater than 10.0 base acres.

With the extension of the 2008 DCP enrollment deadline for farms with 10.0 base acres or less to Nov. 26, 2008, late filed crop acreage report requirement and fees will be waived on farms with 10.0 base acres or less if filed Dec. 1, 2008. This does not waive late filed crop acreage report requirements or fees for farms with greater than 10.0 base acres. DCP program direct payments, for complying with USDA Conservation requirements, average about $16 per acre -- other benefits are also available.

This eligibility to participate for farms with 10 acres or less of base is for 2008 only. Congress has. however, now allowed for farms with 10 acres or less of base to be combined with other farms for 2009, the press release said.
