Bluegrass band performance to benefit fire victims

Saturday, December 27, 2008

A house fire near Sheldon on Dec. 20 took the home and most of the belongings of Robert and Amy Sparks and family, but no serious injuries were reported.

Friends say the family is "very grateful to be safe, though homeless."

To help ease the burden created by the pre-Christmas loss, friends have organized a benefit performance.

On Saturday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m., The Meyer Bluegrass Band, Joe Smith, the Yoder family, and Larry Smith and the Village Pickers will play bluegrass and gospel music at the Thiebaud auditorium in Lamar. Donations benefitting the family will be accepted.

Free coffee, tea and hot chocolate also will be served.
