James Lacy Haley

James Lacy Haley, Rockport, Texas, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. He was born June 1, 1924 in Butler, Mo., the son of William and Ethel Lacy Haley.

His family moved to Nevada when he was a small child. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1941 and was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific. He graduated from the University of Houston and taught for many years at the middle school level in Denver, Colo., the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, and Aransas Pass, Texas, before retiring in Rockport, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jim Boyd Haley of Rockport, Texas: two sons, James L. Haley Jr., of Kingsville, Texas, and Michael B. Haley, of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Catherine (Jerry) Potter, of Austin, Texas; and a grandson, Michael Haley Jr. Also surviving are his two sisters, Betty Ann Pritchard of Nevada, and Mary Muenchinger, of Pierre Part, La., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William D. Haley.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Lamar Cemetery, Rockport, Texas.

Funeral services were under the direction of Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, in Rockport, Texas.
