JV wrestlers fare well at home tournament

Tuesday, January 20, 2009
Nevada High School hosted a junior varsity wrestling tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17. Thirteen schools attended the tournament from as far north as Raymore-Pecuiar and as far south as McDonald County. The varsity wrestlers and other Nevada wrestling supporters pulled together to smoothly run the four mat tournament. The wrestlers were grouped in six-man brackets, ensuring five matches for each wrestler. The quality of wrestling ranged from first-year wrestlers to talented athletes who are just behind state-ranked wrestlers from their school. Nevada demonstrated some quality wrestling from their squad. Raymond Sworde placed first in his division. Kyle Bennett, Zach Shepherd and Gage Brooks placed third. Bodi Vaughn placed fourth and Trey Dockery, sixth. Nevada travels to McDonald County on Tuesday for dual with the Mustangs.
