The tournament pulls in teams that produced 96 state qualifiers and 46 medalists at the state level last year. This year, 12 teams participated, with most being Class 2 schools. Other schools in attendance were Seneca, Class 1, Jefferson City Helias, Class 3 and Omaha Skutt Catholic, Neb., who boast 11 straight Class B Championships in Nebraska.
Nevada took seven wrestlers to the tournament and placed 11th overall of the 12 teams in attendance with a team total of 61.5 points. Skutt Catholic won the tournament with a total of 310.5 total points as a team.
Kirksville took second with 262.5 points and Platte County finished third in team scores with 250 points.
Two Nevada wrestlers placed individually. Todd Brier brought home a third place finish in the 160-pound bracket. Brier had five wins and two losses during the tournament.
His losses were to Colin Wittmeyer of Platte County, 2008 Class 2 State champion at 160 pounds and to Darrick Smith, Oak Grove, third place at the 2008 Class 2 State championship.
Tanner Charles finished in fifth place at 103 pounds, going 4-2 at the tournament.
