David Allen Coe to appear at Nevada Speedway April 18

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

Local promoter Dangerous Doug Harper said that final arrangements have been made and David Allan Coe will definitely be coming to Nevada for a show in April. The event is scheduled for a Saturday, April 18, at the Nevada Speedway, the only venue with enough seating in Nevada.

Harper said that even with all the seating available he thought the show would sell out.

"I'm confident this will be a sellout show," Harper said. "People are calling up and we've got more sponsors Little Elves Cleaning service and I forgot to mention T & T signs last time, they are sponsoring us too. Another sponsor is the Moundville Market, a new general store. Of course we still have the other sponsors, Tobacco Shack, Shooters, and Cash and Dash."

Harper said that he appreciated the sponsors and hoped to get more.

"The more sponsors the better," Harper said. "The more we can raise is just that much more for Children's Mercy."

Harper said if businesses couldn't handle a full sponsorship they could buy ads in the program or simply purchase tickets to the show.

"I know things are tight right now and I appreciate the help I've already gotten," Harper said.

Harper did want to clear up what he thought could be a misperception because of the previous article, the Nevada/Vernon County Chamber of Commerce is not sponsoring it.

"I just want to make sure people understand the distinction," Harper said. "The chamber has been great but they were concerned that their support could be mistaken for sponsorship and I didn't want that."

Another thing Harper wanted people to know about the show is that it will be a family friendly show.

"I did check the box for a family show, he does let you have a choice when you are contracting with him."

The contract calls for six uniformed security guards and for seating out front.

"He did have some things he wanted us to provide in the contract," Harper said. "He said we needed six uniformed security guards and the speedway already has four. He also wanted seating up front for people who just want to sit and listen to the music. We'll have some space to the sides where they can get up and dance if they want to."

In addition to Coe there will be two opening acts, Eric Lane and Matt Harper.

"My brother is going to be one of the opening acts and Eric Lane and the Doghouse Band is the other," Harper said. "After the show the Doghouse Band will have an after party at Shooters."

Eric Lane and the Doghouse Band is a Nevada based music group that plays a mixture of rock, country and blues.

Band members have been deeply influenced by the Outlaw Country movement that began in the mid-'70s. Along with original music written by Lane the band plays a variety of covers that members put their own twist on. The band plays everything from George Jones to George Thorogood and everything in between.

The Doghouse Band has been performing together since 2003 and has gone from playing small rowdy taverns to playing exclusive clubs and universities. The band works out of Nevada, but most of its shows are played out of town. The band puts on a very energetic and entertaining show that combines rock guitar, country soul and down home blues.

Lane is the lead vocalist and plays rhythm guitar and harmonica, as well as writing all the original material for the group.

Eric has been called a true showman, always performing barefoot Eric is something to see on stage. Cody Reed is the co-founder of the band, the bass player and the one in charge of keeping Lane in line.

Cody is a multi-talented instrumentalist who plays many instruments.

Among other responsibilities in the band Cody is Lane's right hand man and helps coordinate the band. David Moses Byerly is a "smoking" guitar player, and also master of the rock and roll mandolin. Dave plays lead guitar, mandolin, piano and helps with the backing vocals. With a fresh perspective and a humorous approach, Dave makes the band even more exciting and entertaining.
