In June 2008 the mural honoring Vernon County veterans was torn from the wall of Rings Appliances by high winds; and a couple of weeks ago -- the date was not readily available -- portions of the mural on the side of Perry Grizzle's insurance agency were beginning to come loose from the wall and city crews removed them to prevent damage.

Julie Lewis, Nevada city clerk, said the city is storing both of the murals and there are plans to put the veteran's mural in Earp Park; but the next step for the Civil War mural is uncertain at this point.

Shirley Ann Bastow, member of the Nevada Parks Board and former member of the Mural Committee, said that the veterans' mural, "Vernon County Valor," would be placed on the side of the building housing the fire department facing Earp Park but that effort would proceed when funding was in place.

"We have the mural stored and will put it up on the side of the fire department," Bastow said. "We're getting the money in pieces and that's slowing things down."

The sections of the Civil War mural hopefully will be replaced after the frame holding the mural is reinforced; however, Lewis said the city won't be undertaking this task due to concerns about liability, since the city does not own the building, and is seeking individuals or organizations that are willing to do so.
