Public hearing on KCP&L rates scheduled

The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a local public hearing in Nevada on March 11 to receive customer comment on electric rate cases filed by Kansas City Power & Light Company and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company (formerly Aquila, Inc.).

Those who testify can comment on either rate case at the local public hearing. The local public hearing will also give consumers an opportunity to bring any service related issues to the Commission's attention.

The Nevada local public hearing will be conducted at the Nevada TeleCenter cafeteria, 2015 N. West St. At. 5:30 p.m., the PSC staff information session starts, and the local public hearing begins at 6 o'clock. The hearing will conclude when every person who wishes to testify has done so.

This local public hearing will be held in a building that meets accessibility standards required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Any person who needs additional accommodations to participate in this hearing should call the Public Service Commission's hotline at (800) 392-4211 (voice) or Relay Missouri at 711 prior to the hearing.

On Sept. 5, 2008, Kansas City Power & Light Company filed an electric rate case with the Missouri Public Service Commission. The company seeks to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $102 million (17.5 percent).

For the average residential customer, the increase would be approximately $14 a month.

Kansas City Power & Light Company serves approximately 271,000 electric customers in western Missouri.

On Sept. 5, 2008, KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company filed an electric rate case with the Missouri Public Service Commission. The company seeks to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $66 million in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS (for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, the proposed increase would be approximately $12.50 a month).

The company seeks to increase annual electric revenues by approximately $17 million in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P (for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, the proposed increase would be approximately $10 a month). KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company provides electric service to approximately 300,000 customers in Missouri.
