Wednesday, May 20, 2009

A young woman from Montainair, N. M., has learned the hard way that stealing road signs isn't a lark. The 20-year-old, Susan Teaney, pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor charges of theft/stealing of property or services less than $500 in the November, 2008 theft of five signs. Judge Neal Quitno put Teaney, who was defended by public defender Rebecca Elisston on two years of probation, ordered her to pay court costs of $108.50, restitution of $100; $10 for the Crime Victims Compensation Judgment, $100 for the County Law Enforcement Restitution Fund, and a $100 Public Defenders Lien as well as perform 30 hours of community service within 30 days.
