When Delbert and Xollie Buffer purchased the old Dave Arnold farm in Blue Mound Township, they discovered that there was an abandoned cemetery on it. They immediately began preparations to care for it. They fenced it from their cattle, cut away downed trees, straightened stones and are keeping it mowed -- all at their own expense. The cemetery is three miles north of Walker on land that was settled by David Arnold in 1866. The earliest marked burial is in the 1880s and the latest is in the 1930s. There are about 40 stones, some of which are quite impressive. Although there are no public roads leading to the cemetery, the Buffers will help visitors find the cemetery if the visitor has family there or is interested in research. There is also a single grave of a child who was buried on the property when the wagon trains were going through. They have fenced that grave, too. Above, the Buffers chat with Charles Foreman.
