Red Sox win season opener

The Nevada Red Sox started their season Thursday night by sweeping El Dorado Springs in a doubleheader. The Red Sox won the first game 6-2 behind a strong pitching performance by Ron Johnson and won the second game 15-9 as Nevada got 12 hits.

Johnson pitched the first six innings of the opener and gave up four hits while striking out four. Jerrod Alexander closed out the game in the seventh inning.

Offensively, Ross Wolfe, Colby Shepherd and Austin Baldwin had two hits each. Ross scored three of Nevada's runs.

Baldwin had three hits and scored three times in the second game. Tyler Dobson was the winning pitcher, going four-plus inning before Baldwin came on to finish up.

Nevada's AA team hosted a doubleheader Friday night. The AAA team will host Miller for a twinbill at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
