Nevada High School Principal Bryan Thomsen has tendered his resignation effective immediately. Citing a professional opportunity to good not to take as his reason for leaving, Thomsen has accepted the superintendent's position at the North Callaway R-1 School District, located about 20 miles east of Columbia, Mo.
With a scheduled start date of July 1, the Thomsen family will have scant time left in Nevada. Thomsen is looking forward to the new position, but said that he and his family have enjoyed their time here and would miss the friends they have made here.
Nevada R-5 athletic director Kevin McKinley said that "working with Bryan for the last five years has been a pleasure; he's been an outstanding principal. It's certainly Nevada's loss that we're going to lose him," and to lose Bryan's wife, NHS softball coach Brandi Thomsen, as well. Look for more in-depth coverage of the administrative changes in the Nevada R-5 school district in upcoming issues of the Nevada Daily Mail.

If Mr. Thomsen was qualified for this superintendent job it seems odd to me that he was not given more careful consideration for the assistant superintendent job that was recently filled in Nevada. I am very sorry to see the Thomsens leaving the Nevada School system and it bothers me that Nevada is left scrambling for a new high school principal with so little time before the start of the school year.
As long as we have our current school board and attitude, good people will be hard to keep.
Adios...everyone can be replaced...and it may be a blessing...but I do agree with first part of the SAM floor post...but I found the only one I dealt with...worth their weight was Mrs Peterson ...a true professional and honest caring individual...She is a true lose...
I was so horrified by the attitude here ...but I was use to the last school system that was really for ALL the kids...not the chosen few..They were amazing professionals...Sadly, I did not find that here...I just wish the superintendent and a extra circular individual will take flight soon...but at this point I could careless...I found the environment hostile and when someone can lie to your face..telling you the yellow ball your holding is purple...well!!! again! I say Adios...God always has someone waiting to arrive...Like the military you are only as good a your Command leaders...I wish him well and happiness...and Mr Johnson was alway kind respectful and professional...I hope he is not gone or leaving as well...
School board officials are elected by the public. If one is unhappy with elected officials, one should utilize his/her right to vote...perhaps become more involved in the campaign...or if one truly wanted to change the attitude of one's school board, one should run for the position oneself.
Personally, I think the current superintendent is quite an asset, and Nevada should consider itself lucky to have him.
Good ridence! He couldn't even pronounce my nieces name correctly at graduation and it's a very common simple name.
I am so so so sorry to see the Thomsen's leave...they both were a positive influence and asset to our school system. I speak from personal experience that Mr Thomsen was a good and caring principal and I still cant' thank him enough. You will be missed and don't pay any attention to the negative stuff....you could be God Himself and people would find fault.
YOU WILL BE MISSED!!
Red Badger & Dan Drew
Please get a life apart from posting on this site. Dan Drew....on behalf of the entire civilized world, please accept our apology that your relative's name was mis-pronounced....given the fact that mr thomsen is 6'6" tall...weighs over 300 lbs...I am sure you went right up to him & told him about the mistake he made of the 200 names I am sure he read that day....what a cowardly post to wish him gone for that.
Red Badger...may I suggest that once you are off public assistance, things will be a little clearer to you on how personal accountability operates here in the real world.
Tommy put down the vodka and try to get you fact straight ,,,if you can so you can get lt your facts straight....hahahah
He doesn't know what facts and straight are! lol ... and who doesn't have a life? someone who has to comment on other peoples comments and stoop to name calling.
Bryan Thomsen will be a great loss to NHS and the district. He is one of the best I have ever worked for. Too bad Dr. Stevens could not see his way clear to do more to keep Mr. Thomsen. Nevada R-5 is now becoming known as training center for Supt. and now they wnat to go outside the system to find replacements. Is Dr. Stevens going to look outside as well for a principal? We have good people in the system starting with Bill Johnston. Mr. Johnston has already proven himself for the position. What's wrong with this whole picture. Think about it Dr. Stevens!

Unfortunately this town and school system especially seems to promote the "home town men/women" whether they deserve it or not. It is a shame the Mr Thomsen was not promoted to the asst Supt job, but that was expected. A home town kid got it...like every other good position in this system. That is why we lose all the good ones....sad sad sad.
The only sad thing about him leaving is his wife. She was a fabulous softball coach and a genuine person. She will be missed.
I just want to add that it's not that I think Mr Beshore won't make a good asst Supt, but it just doesn't sit well with me that every promotion is given to the home town people, and in my opinion, not always the most qualified. Mr Beshore is also a great guy....I certainly didn't meant to disrespect him...just wanted to make that clear.
Let me get a few things off of my chest. First of all I want to wish Mr. Thomsen good luck in his new position. It speaks very well of the quality of administrators we have had in the school district the past few years. We had two leave to take superintendents jobs this year and another promoted within. I hate to see the Thomsens go but it was their choice to leave. They were not forced out or asked to leave. The hometown promotion comment was out of line. Mr. Beshore is not a hometown person. He came here as a teacher and coach and has made the most out of his opportunities. If you want to compare who should have received the job Thomsen or Beshore it wasn't even close. I like and respect both men but it is apples to oranges. I don't think we could find a better person to be the assistant superintendent than we did. I am not trying to disrespect Mr. Thomsen but he does not compare to Mr. Beshore. Good job school board, you picked the right one!
