Farmer's market a mecca for connoiseurs of fresh, local produce

Frank Runyan of Sheldon displays his produce at the farmer's market held each Wednesday afternoon on the Nevada Square. Among his wares are new potatoes, white and red onions and "tame" blackberries. Runyan said his produce has done well even though he had a difficult time getting it planted. Tomatoes and sweet corn are his most popular items. --Rusty Murry/Daily Mail

We wish the city would enforce the grown locally at the farmers market. We keep going up there and some of the sellers admit their tomatoes come from Florida and their peaches come from California. If we wanted this,we would just go to Wood's.

All the produce is grown locally in Vernon or Cedar counties! The tomatoes are started in a greenhouse then trasplanted to the field. Gerster's & Pate's peaches are homegrown too. Pate's orchard is in Stockton, plus they have a store there too. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Home grown is a requirement of Farmer's Market & gardens are checked. Mr. Runyan also passed the strenous test to sell at the Webb City Farmer's Market where they come to your farm & take pictures of everything & make sure it's home grown. His is also pesticide free! Better then any store!

Dear sir or madam,

I would like to take this opportunity to correct you & to ask you kindly to refrain from telling or spreading baseless lies about the good folks selling their products at the local Nevada farmer's market. The first admendment grants us the right to free speech but that does not mean it affords us the right to tell lies. Many of the farmer's that participate in the Nevada farmer's market depend on said market & other markets for their livelihood and you are interferring with that process. Every single seller has to go through certain procedures & abide by prescribed regulation in order for them to be able to do what they do. I personally know many of these growers & sellers & have walked the ground that their produce is grown & harvested from. This land is located in the areas of Cedar, Barton, Vernon & Bates counties Missouri not California nor Florida. This is fact NOT fiction. So please refrain from starting baseless rumors or lies. I have, I am & I will continue to support the home grown produce at the Nevada Farmer's Market & the local folks that grow them in the good old soil of Missouri. You are way off base, with your lies about the farmers market. All of their fruits and veggies are home grown,just as they say they are. I think you are just jealous that you can't grow your own,or maybe you tried to get into the market and couldn't because yours was from Florida or California but not the ones here.I have been to alot of their farms and believe me they are HOMEGROWN just as stated. Spread your lies else where and about others not Vernon County Farmers Market.
