Mary M. Garner, 85, Ozark, Mo., formerly of Deerfield, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Ozark Riverview Manor, in Ozark, following a brief illness. She was born May 5, 1924, in Nevada, to Elton Woods and June Berry Woods. She married Russell Earl Garner on April 20, 1946, in Paola, Kan., and he preceded her in death in 2003.
Mary grew up in Nevada and was a graduate of the Nevada High School Class of 1942. She was reared by her mother and stepfather, Orba Young. Mary worked many years as a secretary at Nevada State Hospital and also worked with her husband for Garner Oil Company in Deerfield for many years. She and her husband had moved to Branson in 1991 and she had lived in Nixa since 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Lynn Garner, Lebanon, Mo., and Donald Lane Garner and his wife Amie, Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Rusty Garner, Nevada, Scott Garner, Memphis, Tenn., Jeremy Garner, Lebanon, Mo., Heather Replogle, Republic, Mo., Chris Garner, Ozark, Mo., Casey Garner, Camdenton, Mo., Corby Garner, Washington, D.C., and Braiden Garner, Springfield; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Gene Young, Nevada, and one sister, Gloria June Wilson, Plano, Texas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elton Woods, Jr. and John Robert Young; one sister, Rose Lee Sullens; one son, Gary Garner, and one great-grandson, Caylan Garner.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
