Evelyn "Louise" Smith

Evelyn "Louise" Smith, 84, Nevada, passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at her home. She was born Sept. 26, 1924, the daughter of the late John and Opal (Cook) Parks. On March 16, 1946 she was united in marriage to Eugene William Smith. He preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1990.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Donald Smith and Dennis Smith, both of Nevada; one daughter Barbara Wiley, of Harrisonville, Mo.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, one son Kenneth Smith, two brothers Joshua Parks Jr., and James Parks, and one sister Minnie Jewell Parks preceded her in death.

Louise served her country in the Women's Army Corps from 1945 to 1946. She first worked as a cook at the Harrisonville Hotel and then at the Harvest House in Harrisonville. Later she worked at several other restaurants in the area. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0042 and enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking and her family genealogy.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Sturgeon, Mo. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery near Sturgeon. Visitation was from noon until service time on Monday, Aug. 31, at the Oliver Funeral Home, in Sturgeon, Mo.
