Nevada girls' tennis drops road match
JOPLIN, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers tennis team competed in their third dual match of the year as they traveled to Thomas Jefferson High School Thursday afternoon.
Thomas Jefferson seemed to have the Lady Tigers' number throughout the duration of the match as they took eight of the nine matches that were played. Daven Smith and Katlyn Short were the only ones to bring home victories for Nevada as they defeated Rebecca Humphreys and Samantha Kemp in the No. 2 doubles match.
Humphreys got Thomas Jefferson started in the No. 1 doubles match as she faced Leah Creasy, earning an 8-6 victory. Shannon Clark followed with a similar performance as she took down Smith by a final score of 8-4.
In the No. 3 singles match, Short was no match for Ophelia Chen as she fell by a final score of 8-1. Rachel McNally made quick work of Nevada's Caitlin Wagner as well, winning the No. 4 singles 8-2.
In the final two singles matches of the day, Ashley McKinley and Ashley Magsam each lost to Cayla Burnett and Kemp, respectively, by 8-6 scores. In doubles competition, Clark and Chen defeated Creasy and Magsam by a score of 8-6, while Burnett and McNally defeated Wagner and McKinley 8-4.
After that match, the Lady Tigers were scheduled to take a 4-day break before heading back out on the road to face Carthage on Tuesday.
