Dolores Jean Nichols, 78, of Rockville, Mo., formerly of Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo., following a lengthy illness. She was born July 15, 1931, in Vernon County, Mo., to Jean Jones and Mary Elizabeth Heistand Jones. She married Wilber Nichols on July 11, 1948, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1988.

Dolores was born and reared in Vernon County and spent most all of her life here. She worked for 48 years at Nevada State Hospital, originally as an ophthalmic assistant and later as an LPN. She retired in 1991. Dolores was an avid fisherwoman and loved to camp. She also enjoyed music and crocheting. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Steven Nichols and Joan, East Moline, Ill.; two daughters, Carolyn Holmes and her husband Robbie, Kansas City, Mo., and Pam Kahl and her husband Mitch, Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Carri Banes, Kansas City, Kan., Casi Hodge, Kansas City, Mo., Jeremy Stonebraker, Carthage, Mo., and Sean Stonebraker, Kansas City, Mo; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant son, Herbert Clarence Nichols.

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 5-6 p.m., Friday Sept. 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
