According to Barton County Sheriff L. Mitchell Shaw, at approximately 2:06 a.m., a Barton County deputy spotted a vehicle stopped at an anhydrous-ammonia tank-located on Southwest 160th Lane. When the deputy activated the traffic lights in his patrol vehicle, a pursuit between the deputy and the suspect vehicle took place that covered 18 miles of the southwestern section of Barton County. Radioing for assistance, another Barton County deputy was able to deploy stop spike sticks near the intersections of state highways 43 and 126, in which the eastbound suspect vehicle struck, causing the vehicle to become enabled.
The suspects then attempted to elude the officers by fleeing on foot, with one being apprehended near the vehicle and the second, running into a nearby creek. With the assistance of the newly acquired sheriff's department canine, Remko, the second subject was taken into custody without incident.
Being held in the Barton County Jail awaiting formal charges for theft of anhydrous ammonia are Lloyd Maclame Stubbs, 42, and Timothy John Coburn, 37, both of Springfield. Coburn is also being held on a Polk County warrant for driving while intoxicated and a Taney County warrant for possession of amphetamine.

Excellent work by the Bates County Sheriff's Department. However I am pretty sure they DISABLED the vehicle rather than ENABLING it. One requires a mechanic, the other requires a shrink.
Hey I beleive it was BARTON county not Bates. There is about 60 miles differance there smart ass.
differance is spelled 'difference'.
