Ivan Thayne Nordyke Jr., 66, of Channelview, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2009. Ivan was born on Oct. 14, 1942 in Butler, Missouri to Ivan and Margaret (Jenkins) Nordyke.
Ivan is a former resident of Nevada, Mo., and graduate of Nevada High School. Ivan has lived in the Channelview area for 40 years and worked as a truck driver. When he wasn't busy working he enjoyed fishing, classic cars, collecting things, watching John Wayne movies and most of all spending time with his family.
Ivan is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Sr. and Margaret (Jenkins) Nordyke; stepfather, Cecil Wilburn; wife, Catherine Nordyke. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Newton, daughter, Karen Jeffries and husband Bruce; son, Troy Nordyke; daughter, Julie Hoover and husband Travis; sister, Ann Engle and husband Jack; grandson, Justin Byrom; grandson Tracey Byrom and wife Ashley; granddaughter, Dalanie Hosford; granddaughter, Kristen Hoover; great grandchildren, Leah, Donna, Tracey Lynn; cat, Lighting and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5-8 p.m., at Sterling-White Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 10 a.m., at the First Apostolic Church in Highlands, Texas. A visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m.-noon at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and a graveside service will then follow at 1:30 p.m., at the V.A. National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan.
