Girls' state golf tournament shortened

Mother Nature strikes again. The 2009 Missouri State High School Golf Championship tournament was shortened to just one day instead of the usual two due to severe weather, thus giving the Nevada Lady Tigers two top-20 finishes.

"We got a lot of lightning and just didn't have time to get them all back out there on the course," Lady Tigers head coach Brian Leonard said.

All three of Nevada's state qualifiers had fairly strong showings that stayed consistent with what they had done throughout most of the year. Emmaly Ellis and Mariah Jones both found themselves in a five-way tie for 19th place overall as they both finished the day with a final score of 93.

Nevada's Melea Galimberto finished 16 strokes behind Jones and Ellis in a tie for 73rd with a final score of 109. Savannah took the overall team victory with a final score of 363, while Barat Academy's Haelena Schwemmer brought home the individual best score at 78.

WAY TO GO MARIAH!!! You should be so proud, I think your score has been the best score anyone from Nevada has ever done for girls golf. Can't wait to see ya out on the course next year!! Hopefully you will improve even more over the spring and summer and become even more consistant with the lower 80's and maybe even some 70's, watch out college recruits!!! This is what NHS needs to see more of, great kid, great student and a true christian athelete!!!!

Great job both of you and Melea too!!! As a matter of fact great job TEAM!!! Also congrats to the softball team. This was another girls team full of firsts!!! GO GIRLS (=

Way to go to the entire Girls Golf Team and Coach Leonard! All of the girls should be proud of themselves, they did a great job this year.

Emmaly, Melea, Ashley, Morgan, Jessica, Myra, & Bailey, you all did a wonderful job and worked as TEAM to build each other up!! I know I am proud of each and everyone of you!

NHS has lots of great kids, true christian athletes and great students in several sports, there are way too many to individualize!!

Good Job to all Nevada Tiger & Lady Tiger Athletes!!
