Body of missing man foundTuesday, November 3, 2009
The search is over for Kaleb Brewer, reported missing Thursday. Brewer was found in the creek just past the first set of railroad tracks across south BB highway Monday. Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman said that information was still being developed but that it appeared Brewer had lost control of his vehicle and ended up in the creek.
"We don't know yet but it appears alcohol or drugs may have been involved," Peckman said. Comments |

To the entire Brewer family, my heart and sympathies are with you. My son and Caleb are the same age, and I know that it has to feel like a mistake and that it's too soon to see a young life end. I pray that you find comfort in God's arms and peace in His love.

Why does the sheriff have to say that "alcohol or drugs"...why doesn't he just say that it's under investigation - geez....gossip, gossip, gossip....we are a small community and why cause more saddness to the family. Even stating he died as a result of a one car accident is kinder. I just really feel for the family...
I do not know your family but my heart and prayers go out to you all during your time of loss.
we are lifelong family friends with the peters/brewers and we are so sorry for your loss and are praying for your family, i too do not understand why the sheriff stated that there may be alcohol or drugs involved. I think it is very inconsiderate and unprofessional and tactless in this situation. UNNECCESARY!
The death of anyone is tragic and sad, but a young life cut short before they have had the opportunity to live their life, is the saddest by far. How or why the person dies is irrelevant, the sadness, loss, and pain for those that loved them is the same regardless. Less focus on bringing comfort to those who share in this loss, and not on the how or why.

While not a life long friend, I have become quite close to members of the family. I cannot beyond my wildest thoughts explain the ramblings of our sheriff, nor can I explain the antics of our local paper to print such thoughtless remarks. The paper in the past has, and is known for misquotes and leaving some things out, or even not reporting news. This is all mute, as we need not loose sight of the loss of life and the family suffering. Peace be with the family and may they find solitude in the fact not all people are as thoughtless and are feeling sorrow for and with them.
My heart is truly breaking for my friends family. I have been friends with Kaleb for nearly 4 years and my heart aches for his family. I don't care what the sheriff thinks may have been involved in the death, what does that have to do with anything. Kaleb was a very outgoing person who will be missed by myself, my husband and my children. He has been there for us through some of the roughest times in our life. Kaleb will forever hold a special place in my heart. And I know where ever he may be he is holding his head high and watching out for those he cares about. I love you guys and I LOVE YOU KALEB forever!!!
Peckman responded that way because he's a jerk.
It is unfortunate that this young man had to pass away, but it sounds as if the family and/or friends are placing blame on the sheriff because of their grief. Anytime an accident occurs and alcohol or drugs are involved you usually hear about it. Maybe the paper shouldn't print the comments. Driving while intoxicated is illegal and if it is proven that he wasn't intoxicated I'm sure the sheriff would apologize. I think people should accept the facts and focus on finding peace with what has happened.
Vernon county has been looking for him for four days now and me being his friend came back from springfield to help look and i happen to see skid marks right there on the tracks and the rr sign gone and i have to be the one to find him. Im very disappointed how this county works Peckman is a pos they will never know what happened only kaleb will be the one to answer that question for all of us. Will miss and love u kaleb.
All of you people that want to complain about our sherrif, keep it up. But remember he was voted into office and there are only two ways to get him out. And just remember that next time it is election time. This is not the first time that hes has done this. And there are alot of concerns that I have about him and his department personal personally.
I do feel bad for the family, and there should not be any remarks made by anyone( law inforcement, fire fighters, or ems) about it or anything else that happens untill ALL the facts are known, And some time it is possiable that that they could be wrong.
I`m sure you`ve heard of innocent until proven guilty*well it`s just morbid to say something about someone who has passed that isn't here to speak for their self This isn't the first time either.I'm sure the family has enough grief to deal with.we should all join with this family and bless the memories we have for loved ones lost for whatever reasons, and that's what it's all about, and that's what's important.
Very sad to hear this, I went to school with Kaleb, He was a good kid, No longer live in Nevada but my heart goes out to his Family and friends, Its hard losing someone so close and dear to you, Especially at such a young age.
Drew.
I'm just an outsider and found this accident on the highway patrol crach reports. How far from town was this accident? Why did it take so long to find a car in a creek bed? Was this a big creek? This is a tragic story.
