Jens Barclay, Nevada Police Department, reported on the probable cause statement that staff at the ER were of the opinion that she was suffering Shaken Baby Syndrome and referred her to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Barclay said he was contacted by Tina Zeagler, an investigator with the Division of Family Services, who had received a hotline call from the hospital and a call from Katy Foot, a social worker at Children's Mercy, along with a call from the attending physician, that in their opinion Cali was suffering from Shaken Baby Syndrome.
The doctor reported that Cali had a subdural hemorrhage/hematoma and retinal bleeding.
Barclay and Zeagler interviewed Leonard and stated he confessed to losing his temper and shaking the victim because she wouldn't stop crying.
Leonard was originally held on a $25,000 cash-only bond, but that was changed to a cash/surety bond and he was released when bond was posted.
