Unofficial results of Tuesday's election released last night indicate the Nevada R -5 Proposition No. 1 passed by a wide margin. With 1, 353 yes votes and 382 no votes,7 7.98 percent of voters chose to continue the Proposition C rollback waiver, a tax provision that has been in place for the past 10 years. In 1999, voters OK'd the waiver, which allows the school district to glean all of a 1-cent sales tax. If voters had not renewed the waiver, half of that money would be returned to the state. A small property tax tied to the Proposition C waiver also remains in place.

First let me say i am proud of our community for voting to continue prop 1, it shows that we do indeed feel responsibility to our young peoples education! the only sad thing is that so few people voted, more people need to exercise their right to vote especially in such a small town where your vote carries some weight! But again i cant say how great it is that this passed, and hopefully this is a step in the right direction on putting more priority on education and rewarding our teachers for their great service to our young people!
