Brian Leonard and Sherry Steward have emerged as the tentative winners of two open seats on the Nevada City Council. Leonard received 523 votes, winning one seat; and Sherry Steward appears to have won the other open council seat with a total of 413 votes. Joe Kraft was close behind with 411 votes and Amyl Bishop garnered 349 total votes. Voter turnout for this election was 13.56 percent of registered voters.
All results are unofficial until certified by the county clerk's office. With a margin of only two votes separating Steward and Kraft, a canvass of the votes could tip the scales in favor of one candidate or the other. A handful of votes also separated Steward and Kraft in the primary election.
In the 2006 race for Vernon County prosecutor, a close vote made declaring a winner a long process. In the first reports, it looked as though incumbent Lynn Ewing III might have been the winner by two votes; then it appeared challenger Jeff Feuquay might be the winner by one vote. In the end, a hand-recount was ordered and both candidates ended up with a few more votes; but Ewing emerged the winner by a three-vote margin.

Congrats to both City of Nevada Candidates for City Council, didn't see much campaigning so I don't know what their interest was in seeking a council seat.
I hope that Brian Leonard's absent from the council for the last 3 1/2 years has given him time to reflect on the reason he didn't make it last time he ran for office. We need people on the council who will represent the best interests of the citizens, not the administration of the city. Now that you been elected - be deserving of the people's trust.
Well said Nevadan.
I hope these election does not turn out to haunt us with Leonard and Steward in office. Im sure they both have an axe to grind here and i agree i hope they do whats best for the city and not themselves
did we not learn our lesson the first time Leanord was in office?
Here's hoping Mr. Leonard has learned his lesson from the whole Craig Hubler debacle. Ms. Steward has experience inside city hall, but it was under the the Hubler regime. Keep your eyes and ears open, Nevada!
