Anti-abortion advocates participating in Operation Save America handed out information "to show students the truth about abortion" at the Nevada High School on Tuesday, Nov. 24 while parents insisted, "You don't have the right to target children." Students were not held late, but R-5 Superintendent Dr. David Stephens said, "We wanted to find out what was going on before we let kids out." After all students had left the school, Nevada High School Principal Tom Moore dispersed the small gathering, saying, "How about we all just call it a day and have a good Thanksgiving."-- Rusty Murry/Daily mail

Well... under other circumstances I can understand or at least try to understand their position but to target our children WHILE they are at school, shortly before dimissal, was WRONG! They are now taking their cause too far. I am assuming that they wanted to have the greatest impact, in a very public way, by "staging" this protest at school, but the messege was not heard over the ire of parents. There are plenty of public places where they can protest but to target schools and our children, NO!!! that is unacceptable.
"Operation Save America" should be ashamed, they crossed the line.
AMEN! I trust the school to have MY child's best interest while they are not in my care. Having any groups opinion shoved in their faces while in a learning environment was wrong and GOD himself will tell these confused souls so when they meet him. If this had been another group not tagged with "religious" they would have been removed by the PD. Tell, me. Just because someone claims to be "Of God" does that make them no threat?? I don't think so. Stay away from my kids! How would you like it if I came to your house and shoved my opionions down your childrens throats!!!!!!!
Boy, am I glad my children are through school because I'm not ashamed to say I would have been one of the first ones there and one of the loudest telling this people to leave our children alone. I don't want an abortion clinic at the school handing out info with their prices and I don't want some over the top religious group there telling my child how to morally live his or her life. Thank you to the school for holding the students until they knew it was a safe situation, although with any group that is willing to push the envelope to this extent I'm not sure you can be certain it is safe. There are crazy people out there and they disguise themselves in many different ways!!!
Our schools are run by leftist liberals - that's why there was a stir? They have no problem teaching our kids socialist agenda's, but any thing that hints of conservative values - well that's a real threat and a problem.
Nevadan, please...get over yourself. I'm a conservative, and feel this group is overstepping its boundaries. I applaud the administration for holding the students.
Teaching conservative values were not the problem with the protest yesterday, the problem was that they targeted children. If we do not agree with the curriculum that is being taught in our children's schools then we must attend meetings and speak up and out, the point of the outrage yesterday was that the protesters took their agenda to our children. WE, the parents, didn't have a choice. As stated before, there are many "public" places that they could have gone to "protest" OTHER than schools.
I, too, am a conservative parent and I have strong moral values that I "teach" my children, I DO NOT force my beliefs on other people nor do I "target" their children. What they (protesters)did yesterday was simply WRONG! Leave our children out of their fight, the children have enough to deal with, they don't need this at their door step and as parents, it is our duty to them to protect them, letting it be known that these actions will not be tolerated.
As far as the school officals, they handled it with tack, doing their best to access the situation, making sure no harm would come to the children and allowing, even if they disagreed, the protest without infringing on the protesters rights to assemble.
Target children, that is the exact point. I do NOT believe in abortion, I AM a conservtive but I AM TELLING THIS GROUP AND ALL LIKE THEM, LEAVE MY CHILDREN ALONE OR I WILL UNLEASH A WRATH OF NASTY LIKE YOU'VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE!!!!!! I also don't like the fact that there is porn at the only video store in town. I NOR MY FAMILY KNEW IT WAS THERE UNTIL THESE PEOPLE ADVERTISED IT but I still don't like it, BUT WHAT I ALSO DON'T LIKE IS GOING IN THERE WITH MY 10 YR OLD TO RENT MOVIES FOR FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT AND HAVING THIS SAME GROUP STARE US DOWN LIKE WE ARE RENTING THE CRAP!!! Then I get to explain what porn is and how its bad to a kid that just wants to see a funny movie, she felt like we were doing something wrong because of the looks we were getting from these people when we went in and when we went out. Again, LEAVE MY CHILDREN ALONE!!!! You and your radical group are not the only conservative people in the area, some of us teach our kids about morals quietly and privately at home!!!!
What the group did was illegal. You have to have a permit to hand out flyers. If they put any on vehicles, that is another crime in Nevada. When some of the students protested a few years ago, the school said that no one could protest on school property. Why were the police not called?
They will be if I'm ever aware of this while it is going on. Maybe this group would like to have a group from my church come to there services and stand outside protesting, bet that would cause a stir with them. Our local police and administration would'nt know what to do about it if they were called, just push it under the rug and it will go away.
Lets look into how these people would feel if someone else preached to their kids. Would they approve or call upon the school to step in? Whether or not they accomplished their goal that day, they have received publicity, just look at all of our comments.
I feel they were wrong to do it in the manner they did, it gives conservatives a black eye. I wish the conservatives in Nevada would not be so stubborn and would include all walks of conservatives, not only the far right.
From the photo it appears the picketers are on the sidewalk. That is public property. I don't agree, it makes me mad that they were there but they were not breaking the law as far as the picketing. I don't know about handing out literature. I don't know if they were doing that or if it is illegal. But I wish they would just go raise their own kids and let everyone else raise theirs!!
A religion is a system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, deity or deities, or ultimate truth.
All the labels being mentioned is just that! Labels. According to the above definiton, "religious" groups may be standing in line to assemble. While I may or may not agree with the message, I defend their right to convey it. Location not the best, however all the comments have done more to promote the message than this group being where they were. For the parents worried about this exposure remember who determines the education program, also who controls the MONEY to effect THEIR views. Some parents may want to take a look at a canned class outline. Probably be something in most outlines some parents would disagree with.
I am outraged about the protesters yestarday!! They have taken their convictions too far. Everyone has aright to their beliefs, but do it in tastfull mannor. Was it not enough to teach every child in this town what pornography is? I confronted Bob Yoder at Family Video a few months back during one of their protests. I just told him that thanks to their good work, I now had to explain to my 7 yr old what pornagraphy was.A conversation I did not plan on having for quite some time. His response to me was, " Do you homeschool?". When I asked what that had to do with anything, he replied that children who were not homeschooled had no family values. Now they feel as if they have to stand outside of our schools! They claim that this ins not a homeschooling issue, but I believe other wise. Do they ever target people or groups that DO homeschool? They are making the assumption that just because we choose to educate our children through the public schools, that we support every bad thing in this world. Isn't the reason that they choose to homescool their children, to keep them from seeinng and experiencing things that they do not think is in the best intrest of their child? So, what gives them the right to expose our children to things that we are not ready for them to know about? How would they like it if I stood on their front yard and played an R rated movie for their children to watch because I had a conviction that they needed to be exposed to that! And just for the record, I do not like the fact that Family Video has a pornography room, but that does not mean that just because I rent a movie there that it is porn. They want us to boycott the entire business becuase of one small room that half of this town didn't even know existed befoe they started protesting! The ironic thing to me is that Calvery Baptist is soo extreme with their thinking about all the evils of the world, but yet they promote their church with a website on the internet. Don't they know that the internet is the leading link to pornagraphy in this country? Something to think about....
Do any of you have a clue? Now I am the last to agree with these tactics, but the truth of the matter is the school just doesn't want anyone else to influence your kids but them. They want to take away home school there might be free thought and the real constitution taught there. To these individuals if you want to teach this to your children then maybe you should it is your value set and at least it may give them some respect for life. I would first cite that to every thing there is a season. Sound familiar to any of you I think youll find it in that book your waiving around. My statement is quit trying to be my child's parent, he has two already that care for him. Would you like it if I started standing outside the school passing out Playboy? No you wouldn't because that would be me imposing values that your family didn't agree with. The school is busy trying to over rule parental values as it is don't have the church get in the way now too
Good grief. They were outside of the HIGH SCHOOL. Most high school students have sex and could one day become pregnant and consider abortion. This group merely wanted the kids to know the truth about abortion. It's not like they were standing outside of an elementary school. Geez, calm down.
As a conservative Christian I would have to say that I have never particularly cared for Operation Rescue's tactics ---BUT--- For someone to argue that the school is nuetral and has our children's best interests in mind is ridiculous. School personnel will had out contraceptives and refer for an abortion WITHOUT the parent's knowledge or consent. However, they can't give out an asprin without consent?!? Come on folks, there is blatant agenda in the schools to promote liberal agendas. The kids have the right to hear the other side instead of a lopsided presentation by our liberal educational system that think they know better than parents what is good for their children. Operation Rescue did nothing illegal or they would have been dealt with by the police. The parents that protested - oh yeah - that's freedom of speech too. Freedom of speech appears to work for everyone but conservatives it seems.
I agree with most of you that this is not the place for this to go on at. But with that said how is this any differant than our very own damn preident plastering his crap all of the schools by television. I wonder just how many people stood up and raised hell about this issue. This man does not believe in god just take a quick look atb the new coins. Just a thought but our very own leader is leading most of you and our children down the tube.
Operation Save America -If your all about saveing america Why don't you work on the ozone layer or recycling? Why is it just porn and abortions. I don't believe in abortion either but you know when i drove by rameys and saw your little protest and seen those awful pics it put images in my head that I didn't care to see. So while you are trying to put bad images in the guilty's head you also put those images in innocent people's head too that do not want to see things like that. Not to mention innocent little kids heads!
I agree with Mom70. Also this group was not ok'd with the school, I know freedom of speech but how would others feel if it was the kkk or a cult religion? As far as the presidents message on tv children had the choice not to watch it and the new coin not having "in god we trust" is another conspiracy lie, it's on the side of it and the coin was probably designed more than a year ago.
turbosmama, My youngest child doesn't attend the HIGH SCHOOL, yet she witnessed the protestors and their posters while she was on the school bus along with all the other children that ride her bus grades K-12. I bet her bus was not the only bus that witnessed this. The protestors targeted the entire R5 school students.
It is humorous that above commentors have complained about their children being "targeted." Do they not realize that their children have been targeted for pro-abortion brainwashing in the school systems, curriculum, and the culture in such subtle ways they cannot realize it?
One thing you all see to forget. Abortion is legal. Instead of protesting which does no good, promote candidates who will change the legality if you don't believe in them. I don't believe in big brother making me wear a seatbelt, but protesting is a waste of time.
These fine Christians only want to protest the OVERT sins. Do they even realize they PROMOTE sin by making as one lady put it images and thoughts that we wouldn't normally have until we see there signs. Maybe they should spend more time reading their bible and actually putting time into understanding the doctrine of the bible itself instead of putting unpure thoughts into other Christians heads.
The sad thing with most of the above comments is that most people seem to be concerned with their own comfort and no one seemes to really be greived for all the poor inocent babies who are killed each day by legal abortion in our country. Yes seeing those pictures is awful, but what is even more awful is that we are allowing this to go on in our country and do nothing or next to nothing to stop it. One third of the children who should have been born after 1973 have been killed by abortion. I think we should stop complaining about how uncomfortable these pictures of what abortion does make us feel and start crying for these little ones who have been ripped apart, repent of our apathy and the part we have played in this and do whatever we can to stop this shedding of inocent blood in our land. Hosea 4:1-6.
And because the children attending the school are responsible for the laws of this state lets picket them not the legislature! The Bible is true and you can quote it all day long but it will never make what this group did acceptable.
I comment to people against abortion is "Will you take in the child?" I say that person should be made to take in the child or at least pay for the child until he or she turns eighteen. I think we would hear a lot less protest on the subject if the ones protesting had to pay for and take care of the child. Just my thoughts. Keep seeking the truth.
While I'm not an abortion supporter I do feel we should not judge the decisions of others until we have walked in their shoes. Picket the clinics, picket the legislature, STAY AWAY FROM THE SCHOOLS.
The problem is parents have not trained their children to face real life situations. People like most of the people who blogged on this article live in a dream world where they think their kids will just grow up an be good people on their own. DO you honestly think your kids will just float through life with never facing the issues of abortion or porn. Most of those kids are renting the porn from that store or looking at their fathers when they are not around. The issue of abortion need to be address by the parents. But all kids need to be shown what right and truth are in the midst of a community full of complacent parents and churches. I commend these women for their service. I think if the men in the town were real men and real fathers that the issue of porn, abortion, sex, drugs and homosexuality would not be an issue at all.
easygoinme96 are you anti-Men? Do you and all your wisdom think that underaged kids are really renting the movies in the store? I know someone who works there and until the pickets, they had NOT ONE teen inquire about it, NOW however they have a problem with them trying to see the room and rent it, having to card people at the movie store. ALSO, how do you know how we raise our kids? If you have insight to my home I'd be very interested in knowing how. If you want "these women" teaching your kids, fine. I DO NOT!!!!! I DO teach my kids about the world and not the "Dream" world. HOWEVER I didn't want to teach my 7 yr old about porn yet, but I had to because of "these women". Get your arrogant self out of Your Dream World.
truthseeker67 one cannot put a price on life so for you to say 'I think we would hear a lot less protest on the subject if the ones protesting had to pay for and take care of the child' is really foolish. I know many people who have adopted babies from women going into abortion clinics.
ccmom babies are killed everday all over the United States through abortion. Kids of all ages are having sex and having abortions! My health teacher is also a doctor and he told our class that a 12 year old just had a baby. Abstinence all the way! What did the group do that was unacceptable?
orlahnih1 I am responding to this comment you wrote "These fine Christians only want to protest the OVERT sins. Do they even realize they PROMOTE sin by making as one lady put it images and thoughts that we wouldn't normally have until we see there signs. Maybe they should spend more time reading their bible and actually putting time into understanding the doctrine of the bible itself instead of putting unpure thoughts into other Christians heads."
ok sooohow are showing those photos promoting sin? You clearly have not read the Bible.
klvx203 I'm asking you directly now right now I know a young woman thinking of abortion. Will you not people but you take this baby from her? You have to raise the baby and love the baby like it should be loved. You can not give the baby away. You have to take care of. If you won't do this then be quiet. Of course you can't put a price on a life but how many protesters are willing to step up and accept that life? Are you klvx203?
They chose the wrong place!! In my opinion it is as simple as that. There are school children having abortions, there are adults having abortions, there are home school children having abortions. It's sad but true. Again I'm not saying abortion is the correct choice but I will say again don't judge others until you have walked in their shoes and STAY AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL!!
I was really hoping that when I saw these protestors out in front of Ramey's that would be my last unpleasant visit with them. However it seems they have nothing better to do then to upset people. I am a Christian and am very proud to say so; I am also against abortion as a birth control method. I have always been taught that you should never be afraid to speak your mind and let people know how you feel but I would like to think that if you are going to speak your mind that you would have some sort of common since about it. I have no problem with protesting against abortion if that is the way you feel you need to do it. However all I want is for you to respect me. I realize you were trying to make a point and your points were more then made. However at what cost? I had to send the next 2 hours and most of that night trying to calm down my 8 yr old because she kept having nightmares about pieces of baby's falling on her bed. Not to mention that I am not able to have children so I adopted my daughter, so do you even think about how you affect the people like me? One's who want to have babies? One's who would give anything under the sun to experience the joy of carrying and delivering a child or what about the one's who have had miscarriages? Do you not think that those horrible images will affect us too? Or don't you care as long as your points were made?
truthseeker67 Yes I will take the baby! I will gladly take and raise the child! I live in CT. Please send me the information. I would love to adopt that precious life!!
ccmom no one is judging and there is nothing wrong with them being at the school. They go to clinics and hospitals as well and now schools and there is nothing wrong with that.
smiley76 I have been out at the abortion clinic since I was 3 and I was exposed to those pictures as well. It is terrible and sad thing that this is legal in our Country and at 8 years old a child even understands that.As a Christian you can explain to your child that we need to pray against this wicked law in our Country and try to save babies lives. Showing those pictures reveals the truth about abortion because it's not just an easy procedure. They suck a baby out limb by limb. Have you seen a picture of Jesus crucified on the cross all bloody and pierced? That is a very sad picture as well but that picture reminds us of the price Christ paid for all of us. Now we need to live for Him and sacrifice our lives to glorify God and if that means trying to let others know the truth about abortion and saving babies lives although people might be offended than so be it. Prov 24:11-12 I rather recieve honor and praise from God than from men any day.
I am deeply sorry that you cannot get pregnant but Praise God that you were able to adopt. What a blessing! Aren't you glad your daughter's biological mother chose life for your daughter?
"How can these fanatics show these
disgusting images?"
"The power of pictures is unlike any other. Photos have permanence. They sear an image in your mind. These images shock, they disturb, and they
foment questions." -- USA Today, May 10, 2004
Showing graphic images of aborted babies, not only makes pro-aborts angry, it is also misunderstood by many pro-lifers as well. Below is the answers Church Without Walls Pro-life USA gives out during our Face the Truth Street outreach tours which answers many questions and objections.
Why we are out here...
We are not out here to judge or condemn anyone. In fact, we are very aware of the difficult circumstances that lead people to have abortions, and we are deeply involved in the work of healing those who have participated in abortion.
We are here to educate the public about what abortion is. Although we have had a national debate on abortion for over 36 years, in another sense the debate has not yet begun. While abortion is the most common surgery in America, most Americans have never seen what it looks like. Once people do see it, they can never forget.
"But children shouldn't see these images..."
Please note that our target audience is not children, but adults who do not realize how horrifying abortion is. Yet it is not possible to completely avoid having children see the images.
The problem of children being upset is a concern of ours, too. But the problem of children being dismembered is an even greater concern. We are faced with a situation in which stopping the killing involves upsetting the living. Which do you care more about?
Our activity here saves children's lives. Children may get upset, for example, when the sirens of fire engines, ambulances, or police cars come into their neighborhood. But we comfort them by explaining that people are being helped and lives are being saved. We have all had to explain hard things to our children, such as the events of September 11. The images themselves don't harm children, particularly when they have parents who take the time to answer their questions. in fact, we have had parents bring their children to participate in showing the images to the public! And the children do so with pride.
We believe in handling' first things first. Let's stop the killing of our children by abortion. Then we can comfort the survivors.
It's real...
Some people question whether these images are real These are actual photos of aborted babies who were either found in dumpsters at abortion clinics, or were aborted in facilities that allowed us to come in and photograph the remains. Medical doctors have authenticated the veracity of these images.
.
It's Historical...
Social reform movements throughout history have used images to show people the injustice they were fighting. Those who stopped the slave trade showed pictures of the slave ships; those who reformed the child labor laws showed pictures of the children in the factories and mines; civil rights leaders insisted that the public witness the brutality committed against Blacks. Disturbing pictures are likewise used to dissuade children from crime, drunk driving and smoking, or to educate them about the Holocaust. Other movements that use pictures include the animal rights, anti-war, anti-hunger and environmentalist movements.
It's necessary...
Why, you may ask, don't we use other methods to educate people? In fact, the pro-life movement as a whole does. Pro-life groups write, lecture, and have TV and radio programs. They go into schools, teach abstinence, and provide alternatives to abortion. But words alone cannot convey the horror of abortion. "Seeing is believing," and the ancient Chinese proverb states, "A picture paints ten thousand words." Right now, the public streets are about the only place where we can show people what an abortion is. Normally, schools, TV stations, newspapers, magazines, and churches will not allow these images to be shown.
It works...
People who see these images never feel the same about abortion again. These pictures save lives, convert minds and hearts, and break through the denial that allows abortion to continue in this country. Here are some quotes:
"Thank you for making those graphics available. I used to think that I supported abortions, but after seeing those pics, I recognize what a fool I have been."
"Today, I saw your website with the photos of the aborted babies and wept. I have always been anti-abortion. However, like many of the uninformed masses, abortion was something abstract, impersonal yet immoral. Your website has changed my view of abortion forever."
"I really, really, really want to thank you for showing the pictures on abortions. I'm 34 years old and I've never seen pictures of babies that have been aborted. It's a possible chance that I may be pregnant, but at first I said I already have 3 children and I don't need another one! Abortion was on my fiance's and on my mind. If I am still pregnant, this baby I will have. Now I can show him the pictures!"
It's up to YOU...
If photos of abortion are too upsetting to look at, then abortion itself should be too upsetting to tolerate! We need your help to bring abortion to an end!
THE NEXT MOVE IS YOURS.
I see that my first comment was taken off, so here we go again.
We as tax payers in the city and the county should have been notified when they showed up at the school, but we weren't. Thats a hole nother issue. But from what I have heard they are not not even from here in Nevada, they are from Eldo. maybe they should go back home and do it there. Because we are fed up with here in Nevada.
If they keep it up on the street, someone is going to get hurt.
What if someone calls up the KKK to demenstate across the street from them? Some one would likely go to the hospital or jail. So how are they getting around the law?
How many girls in Nevada High are pregnant or have had an abortion? That could possiblely be a reason the school was targeted. Abstinence only sex ed does not work! Yes the pictures are hard to look at but it seems the country is in the mind frame of sweep it under the rug(out of sight out of mind). I realize there are times when an abortion is an option(ie rape, medical reasons). It is heartbreaking what happens to these little ones & believe me I would take in as many children, as I could. Every life is valueable. You never know what that little one was suppose to accomplish in this life, it may have been great & world changing, if they were given the chance.
There is a article today titled "Vernon Co. Encourages Adoption of Children in Missouri Foster Care" it seems to me all of these people who have offered to adopt these aborted babies could turn their attention to these children in need. Or maybe it's easy to say you would perform a good deed but never really follow through with it. And, if any of you have actually adopted a child in need God bless you!
Most adoptions are because adults want a child not because a child needs a parent. Sad thought isn't it =(
I agree with ccmon. You all sit here and say you would gladly adopt a child well open your mouth and insert your foot and go start adopting!
Darren you are clearly not thinking straight. Comparing these demonstrators to people from the KKK? That's just stupidity. These people are trying to save lives while the KKK took lives.Try a history class. And it is their right to be there, so no one is getting around the law.
