Presentation on agricultural and environmental issues set for Feb. 10

Bob Broz, MU water quality specialist, will present "Ag Practices and Environmental Issues -- What's the Fuss?" on Feb.10, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Nevada TeleCenter, classroom E. He will present an overview of water quality related environmental regulations, examine examples of situations that have occurred around the state relating to ag practices and how they connect to environmental regulations and how to prevent compliance problems before they occur. Topics include anticipated changes in pesticide sprayers from nonpoint source to point source pollution, re-registration of pesticides (using atrazine as the primary example), and environmental standards shifting from carcinogenic to endocrine disruption. Application has been made for two soil and water continuing education units for Certified Crop Advisors. The cost is $20. Call (417) 448-2560 by Feb. 2 to register.
