Wednesday, March 3, 2010

GOLDEN CITY, Mo. -- The Class 1 District 7 girls' basketball tournament began Monday night and proved to be a successful night for a number of area schools. The Hume Lady Hornets, Bronaugh Lady Wildcats, Rich Hill Lady Tigers and Sheldon Lady Panthers all advanced out of first-round action.

None of the first-round games gave fans much action to enjoy as all four were very one-sided affairs. The first game of the night was the most lopsided of all as the Hume Lady Hornets picked up a 67-point victory over the Lady Knights of NEVC by a final score of 80-13.

The second game was not nearly as one-sided as the first, but Lockwood's Lady Tigers still didn't put up much resistance in a 58-29 defeat at the hands of the Bronaugh Lady Wildcats. The night's third game saw the best defensive performance of the night as Rich Hill's Lady Tigers allowed just nine points in a 65-9 defeat of the host team, Golden City.

In the final game of the night, the Sheldon Lady Panthers found themselves in the closest game of the night, but still picked up a 28-point victory over Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School by a final score of 62-34.

Tournament play for the girls continues tonight at Golden City High School as the Lady Hornets of Hume will take on Bronaugh at 6 p.m., followed by Rich Hill squaring off against Sheldon at approximately 7:30.
