Cecil Leroy Marker, 82, of Moran, Kan., passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home.

Cecil was born Feb. 5, 1928, in Faulkton, S.D., the son of Rex Leroy and Cecile Mildred (Ickler) Marker.

He was inducted into the United States Army on April 10, 1946, where he served with the 54th Engine Maintenance Company. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal before his honorable discharge.

Cecil married Hazel Hillman; they were later divorced. On Sept. 18, 1980, Cecil married Carol Maurine Knight. They shared more than 29 years of marriage.

Cecil had lived in Bronson, Kan., where he was a mechanic and owner of Marker's Garage. He also worked for Kenalta Oil in Neosho Falls, Kan., from which he retired. Cecil and Carol had made their home in Yates Center, Kan., before moving to Moran.

Cecil loved working with his hands, building things and working in his yard. He loved being outdoors.

Cecil was reunited in heaven with a son, Steven Leroy Marker; his parents; brother Gene Marker; and a sister Pauline Wilham.

Cecil is survived by his wife Carol, of Moran; eight children, Theresa Holt and her husband Robert, of Cannon City, Colo., Sharon Gutierrez, of Chanute, Kan., Lori Reagan and her husband Denver, of Blue Mound, Kan., Kandy Womelsdorf, of Ottawa, Kan., Teresa Grewing and her husband Dave, of Kincaid, Kan., Jim O'Brien and his wife Janet, of Fort Scott, Mike O'Brien, of Bronson, David O'Brien and his wife, of Lane, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; and two sisters, Diane Zen and her husband Den, of the state of South Dakota and Joan Meyers.

The family will gather for a celebration of life to honor the memory of Cecil at 11 a.m., Monday, March 15, at the Neosho Falls Community Building, in Neosho Falls. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans and sent in care of Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188 Yates Center, KS 66783.
