Council gives final approval to sewers for Meadow Lane

Wednesday, March 17, 2010
The 30-year wait of the residents of the Meadow Lane development for city sewers will soon be over. Tuesday night the Nevada City Council voted 3-2 to give final approval to a special ordinance to accept the sewer easements granted by the Meadow Lane residents and to waive the usual $500 sewer connect fee.

This will clear the way for the city to install the new lines. Once the lines are installed, the residents will have six months to connect to the sewer lines.

In other business the council:

* Voted 5-0 to accept the bid of $12,000 from Kansas Golf and Turf, Wichita, Kan., for a used 2002 Model Jacobsen LF 3800 fairway mower for the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course. The current mower was made in 1978 and needs to be replaced.

* Voted 5-0 to approve the reappointment of Dr. Judy Rogers to a second term on the IMPACT Tourism board. Her term will end in 2012.

* Voted 5-0 to approve the reappointment of Warren Schooley to a second term on the airport board. His term will end in 2013.

* Voted 5-0 to approve the appointment of Jennifer Thomas to fill an unexpired term on the Nevada Housing Authority board that will end in 2013.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a service agreement with Washington Electronics, Pittsburg, Kan., for the city warning sirens at a cost of $2,600.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving a contract with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for the design of the apron reconstruction project at the Nevada Municipal Airport. The total cost for this phase of the project, which has been approved for funding through the State Block Grant Program, is not to exceed $59,076, with the city's 5-percent match not to exceed $3,109.

* Held a public hearing and voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance granting a water line easement at the Nevada Municipal Airport to Consolidated Public Water District No. 1 for water lines on the airport property. The easement follows the actual location of the water lines. The water district currently has an easement that encompasses the entire airport property and to meet FAA and MoDOT requirements the easement must be changed.

* Voted 5-0 to pass on first reading a special ordinance approving an agreement with CPWSD No. 1 requiring that any work the water district does on water lines at the airport will not interfere with the airport operations. This is required by the FAA and MoDOT to receive grant funding for airport projects and operations.
