Second reading of property maintenance codes tonight

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The Nevada City Council will be holding the first reading of a special ordinance approving a contract with Snyder Construction, Joplin, for the 2010 street sales tax improvement projects during tonight's council meeting, at 7, in the council chambers in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash Street.

The council will also be considering a right-of-way solicitors license for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, as well as, the first reading of ordinances approving an agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for the design of the apron reconstruction project at the Nevada Municipal Airport and a special ordinance approving a settlement agreement with Alltell Communications for business taxes.

Other items the council will be considering on first reading include an ordinance that allows the city to participate in the Missouri Highway Safety Program and two resolutions: an ordinance sponsoring a grant application for the Council on Families in Crisis and the second waiving the prohibition on discharging firearms in the city limits and a measure approving the Missouri Osage Territory Muzzle Loader Black Powder competition in September.

The council also will conduct the second readings of four ordinances: a special ordinance approving a telephone services agreement with the Western Missouri 911 Dispatch Center; a general ordinance setting a uniform height for grass and weeds at 8 inches; a general ordinance adopting the 2006 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code and a special ordinance setting Nevada rural fire membership fees.
