Tigers compete at Carthage

In their first outing in just over a week, the Nevada Tigers varsity boys' golf team took to the greens at Carthage Municipal Golf Course Wednesday morning.

The Carthage High School/Sonic Invitational tournament featured an impressive draw of high quality competition from 18 different schools from all around western and south central Missouri. Of those 18 schools, two brought a second team, lifting the tournament total to 20 teams.

Out of that strong 20-team field, the Tigers tied with the Carthage Blue team for 14th overall with a final team total of 367 -- 58 strokes off the winning total. Olathe Northwest's A team won the tournament with an overall score of 309. Olathe Northwest's B team wasn't far behind at 310, followed by Springfield Kickapoo at 314, Joplin at 321 and Carthage's White team rounding out the top five at 335.

Alex Christensen posted the best score of the day for the Tigers as he finished the par-71 course in 80 strokes. Joseph Ferry posted an overall score of 88, followed by Trevor Landis at 99, Justin Carter at 100 and Taylor Handly at 121.

Olathe Northwest A's Matt Green finished with the day's best individual score at 71.

The next outing for the Tiger is scheduled for today when they Briarbrook Country Club in Carl Junction, Mo., for the Bird Dog Invitational at 8:30 a.m., weather permitting.
