Habitat chapter seeks volunteers

Thursday, September 2, 2010

The Nevada Area Chapter of Habitat for Humanity has broken ground on its 12th house,

Anyone age 18 or older is eligible to participate on the job site, and the group is in need of volunteers who can work at the home site, 505 S. Chestnut St, Nevada. Anyone who would like to volunteer may contact Carolyn Lucas by e-mail at clucas@gmail.com, or by phone at (417) 448-7344.

According to www.habitat.org, Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans.

The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.
