Friday night football
It's been 30 years since I gave up coaching football, but Friday night of the season opener, I found myself at the Osawatomie stadium watching the Garnett Bulldogs take on the Trojans.
This time I'm in the stands because my sophomore grandson had indicated he was going to be on the kickoff team and that's what Grandpa's are for, to be there.
While Osawatomie was favored to win, Garnett jumped on them early and took advantage of some breaks and ended up winning the game 35-12. Both teams wear red and white uniforms and at times it was hard to figure out who was who. Grandson was involved in four kickoffs, and late in the game managed a few plays on defense and a couple on offense; one was a carry on a sweep around the right end which saw him swarmed under by about half the Osawatomie defensive unit.
Perfect night for a football game, but what makes it even more special is to watch one of your kids or grandkids participating in the contest.
