A rollover accident on U.S. 54 Highway Friday evening took the life of 66-year-old Donald L. Williams, of Deerfield, Mo. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Williams, who was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on 54, five miles west of Deerfield, at about 6:30 p.m., attempted a left turn into the path of an eastbound 1986 Freightliner driven by a 50-year-old Clinton man. The two vehicles collided nearly head-on, and the Freightliner overturned, coming to rest just off the south side of the roadway. Williams was transported by ambulance to Nevada Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The other driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Nevada Regional Medical Center as well. As required by law, he also was tested for alcohol. Both lanes were closed to traffic while the emergency workers dealt with the situation.
