Bennie Edward Banks, 91, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin. He was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Nevada, to Elmor W. Banks and Maude Williams Jones Banks.

Bennie grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 19, 1942 to Oct. 31, 1945, in the Pacific Theatre of War and the Aleutian Islands. Following the service, Bennie returned to Nevada. He went to work for Missouri Public Service and retired from there after 40 years of service.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly K. Neal, Camdenton, Mo.; one son, Lawrence E. Banks and his wife, Tracy, Gardner, Kan.; three grandchildren, Kaylen Banks, Max Moore and Sydney Moore; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Dewey Jones, Joseph Thomas Jones and Joseph Banks; and two sisters, Margaret Stark and Mamie Counts.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 1, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with full military honors. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home. The family receives friends from 12-2 p.m., Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
