'Truman' speaks to students on Veterans Day

Friday, November 12, 2010

President Harry S. Truman, as portrayed by Dave Hall, speaks to a full gymnasium at the Bronaugh High School during a Veterans Day program held Thursday, Nov. 11. Truman spoke of his beginnings, military service, political life and the hard decision he had to make when he decided to drop the atomic bomb on the Japanese islands of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in order to bring World War II to a close and save untold thousands of American soldiers' lives. He praised veterans and America and said the country needs to return to the moral code that made it great. "Children," he said, "are our most important resource." and Americans need to teach them the "inner resources of character "which have always been the "strength of the American people." The program included patriotic music, songs, a Veterans Day poem and recognition and introduction of veterans present for the event.
