Rocky Lynn Thompson, 51, Topeka, Kan., passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kan., following a lengthy illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1959, in Sacramento, Calif., to Maynard Emery Thompson and Dixie Lee McGrath Thompson.
Rocky spent much of his youth in the Nevada and Milo areas, but graduated from Girard High School. Following school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for two years. He worked for many years in road construction as well as building trades. Rocky was a Baptist.
Survivors include four children, Chad Thompson, Pittsburg, Kan., Rachelle Thompson, state of Arizona, and Shawn and Shannon Thompson, both of Joplin, Mo.; his mother, Dixie Lee Thompson, Leavenworth, Kan.; and one half-brother, Matt Tilley, of the state of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Emery Thompson, on Sept. 30, 2008.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo, Mo. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, at the funeral home prior to the service. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
