Betty Lou Scism, 75, Nevada, passed away at her residence on Monday, March 28, 2011, following a lengthy illness. She was born on Sept. 22, 1935, in Greenfield, Iowa, to Merlin T. Meisenheimer and Theresia A. Karhoff Meisenheimer. She was married to Jearl Scism on June 10, 1978, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 2007.

Betty grew up and attended school in Adair County, Iowa. She came to Nevada in 1961. She worked at Veith's Café, Harpie's Chicken Inn, and Bob Moore's Café. She later became a Mary Kay Cosmetics Representative and assisted her husband at Jearl's Radiator in Nevada. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the BPO Elks No. 564 in Nevada.

Survivors include four sons, Bob Cummins and his wife, Geneva, Nevada, Mo., Sean Scism and his wife, Carol, Jearl Brent Scism, and Jim Scism all of Gainsville, Fla.; one granddaughter, Andrea Louise Cummins, Gentry, Ark.; three brothers, Edward Meisenheimer, Jim Meisenheimer and his wife, Belva, and Don Meisenheimer and his wife, Pat, all of Nevada; one sister, Helen Brasher, Sheldon, Mo.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two aunts, Mary Alice Wilson and Frances Beisley, both of Nevada; and a host of friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Kelly Scism and Danny Cummins; and one brother, Gene Meisenheimer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 31, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, at the funeral home.
