Coal Township tax issue resolved
Wednesday, March 30, 2011
Residents of Coal Township wanted something done with the township roads, so in April of 2009 the voters of the township voted in favor of increasing the special road tax levy by 100 percent. The existing levy was set at 35 cents per hundred dollars of property valuation. That 2009 voter approved increase brought the total amount of the levy to 70 cents -- double the original amount. Landowners were prepared to pay the extra money for better roads, but nothing happened.
